I have thought long and hard about the twist locks. Trouble is that the aluminum hoods can get iron contamination even with the best precautions. I am gathering my funds and energy to pull the front end off. Then I add a Mishimoto intercooler, billet grill with the tri bar on the driver’s side, and Knight Rider style leds. (They are a hit with the kids, young and old)

I need to decide about side and front splitters. SBS Performance will make any design within reason.

I got one of the GT/CS eBay knock off grills and pony. I like the look of it.

I'm also wanting to do some sort of aplitter. Just not sure what yet

Nice. That's the grill I went with. I saw JPjr used a 69 emblem on his GT350 front end converted car and liked the look of it, so I tried it on mine. Really pleased with it.

Installed a GT/CS splitter, and I love it. Also installed some gloss black foglight splitters while I was at it. Much cheaper than the MMD pieces and they're, well, gloss black.

Sweet. That splitter looks great. I may have to rethink be my plans there.

The 69 emblem looks good. I never even thought about trying to use one

Thank you. Couple of small details to note. The GT/CS grille has three holes in the driver's side block off plate for the factory tribar. I opted to plug these up with small plastic caps. It's a small detail, but I like stuff to have that finished look.

The tribar itself is a Scott Drake reproduction. Its a nice piece, but just like the originals it uses speed nuts. I hate these things, and because the posts are longer than what you need here, the risk of breaking them is greater. One of mine broke during mock up, and it was a pain to retap.

Lastly, I located mine a bit more towards center, and lined up the frame of the tribar with one of the indentations in the grille's slats. Because the emblem sits on a black plastic base that's canted to square it up with the road, its kind of hard to find the right position. It took a bit of trial and error to find the right spot.

Its a bit more work than using the current factory emblem, but I think the old style version works better. Just my preference.

On the splitter, its hard to beat the GT/CS piece for the money. Installation is easy, and it doesn't jut out too far, but its still noticeable versus stock. I like that it doesn't sit any lower than the standard splitter, so I don't worry so much about clearance issues. There's a few chin splitters that look pretty cool (I think Steeda makes one that has an indentation that echos the shape of the lower grill, which looks nice), but since I'm going for a "what if Ford made a Mach 1 for the 2015-17" kind of concept, the GT/CS fit the bill perfectly. Note that Ford used the GT/CS chin splitter on the 2012/13 Boss 302, for my example.

looks good i was thinking that same way when I was gonna do my side stripe but just had custom made. Mine is a mash up of 69-70 and 03-04 styling. rear stripe had to be customs made as well. the rear gas cap is a 65-73 gas cap, found unique emblems for grill, fenders, rear quarter. used OEM ford parts from 04 mach1 for shaker and seat emblems, forth version of making it a functional shaker was with a crashed GT350 intake.

I’ll be doing a side exhaust and want to change to some magnum wheels that matches the size and BS/Offset I currently have, hurst shifter, want to change to a pedestal type spoiler and I think I’ll be done with the styling. Keep it up and help me bring tribute to the mach1.

Looks great! Really sharp and great execution of the look. I love everything about it, except, having the emblem on the rear quarter panel. I know you are going for a tribute look but it seems out of place due to the S550 design.

I think that my biggest gripe is the gas tank door emblem. you only need 1 mach1 per side, and that gives it two. I'm iffy, slightly negative, on the quarter emblems, again, a bit too much.

Something about the shaker still seems off, think it is a bit high maybe in the front? The S550 would look great with a NACA/NASA hood, but noone makes one yet. (since every other model has had one, I am wondering if Ford has put the brakes on an aftermarket NACA/NASA hood for the time being, meaning they intend to bring one out with the Mach.....and Ford has done similar before, having the aftermarket hold up on certain mods because of something coming from the factory)

I really dig the rear panel, it looks great with the Mach 1 and faux gas cap.

Where did you get the pony emblems on the side of the car and the ones behind the rear windows?

This is a great thread with a lot of great ideas here!

I took the OP's pic and tweaked the rear of the stripe to make it a little more like the original.

That's what I was hoping I could do. But the problem I ran into was in where I put the decal.

To be proper to the 69 Mach, the rear quarter decal surrounds the marker light. But the 69 light is quite a bit taller than the s550 version.

When I put the decals on...I started at the front and worked back. I used the line at the bottom of the door to keep it straight. I put it just under that line.

When I got to the rear quarter, the stripe was too high to have the marker centered in the stripe. But what I did find was if I would have put the upper smaller outside line of the decal above the body line, it would have been really close to being able to work in the back.

Unfortunately I was done with the rest of it by then. But if anyone else wanted to try using the 69 stripes...I do think it would work pretty good. Just notch out the center stripe for the marker some.

I hear you. When I was tooling around in photo shop you quickly run out of real estate. Still a really cool idea though. :like:
