Where did you read this? Sync4 is a completely different system, it is not a software update. Just like MyFordTouch/Sync2 vs Sync3.

Your right. I got that one totally wrong. I was thinking of being able to upgrade to Sync 4 from Sync 3 in our dashboards. I believe that there is a small screen version of Sync 4 that will fit. Of course the 12” & 15” screens are a whole other story.

As far as Sync 4 goes, it will work on screen 8” to 15.5”. It should work for most recent Mustangs that are 3.4 capable. The only thing I see being a factor is Apple and Android bringing out updates that support the new features. The recent CarPlay upgrade has features along what may be coming to Sync 4, but the question may be if they restrict the number of ‘cards’ by screen size.

Sync4 is not a software update. Sync3 systems will not be “upgradeable” to Sync4, just like you cannot upgrade an iPhone X to an iPhone 11 or a Galaxy S10 to an S20. There will likely be a Sync3 v4.0 eventually, but that’s a software revision of Sync3 and has nothing to do with Sync4.

I still have my 99 convertible Z24 w/ Quad 4 lol. Piece of shit you are bang on. However parts are (still) dirt cheap and the boneyards are still full of them.
