Gonna take my 16 GT stage 2 whipple A6 car to TNT this weekend. I have a set of Nitto 555r 305/35/20 and am wondering what PSI is optimal for a 20 inch drag radial? My track gets way too crowded on TNT nights so I will only get 3 or 4 passes and want to make the best of it vs trying to find the ideal PSI. Car has some BMR IRS bits so it shouldn't wheel hop but I do have stock axles...so hopefully that's not an issue. Running the whipple tune as well.

18-20psi and get some good heat in them is my recommendation.
Agreed. If the track temps are very cold. Maybe try a littpe less than than. My NTo5Rs would hook best when it was cold out at 16psi.

I have the same tires... My best 60's were with 30psi but that was months ago... They have a lot more wear as I DD them and I don't race as much as Blue... Take his advice and let us know how it goes!

I live on Maui so cold temps aren't what they are on the mainland! LOL With the 6r80 trans will first gear have enough MPH to heat the tires properly or should I be in second? I know I sound like a total newbie but I've actually been bracket racing for 15 years, mostly in my blown 06GT. With the 5r55 I always burnout in second gear to get enough MPH just not sure about the 6r80. thanks...

Blue, I keep going back and forth between Nitto NT05R and Mickey Thompson ET street SS. Do you have experience with both? If so, what are your thoughts?

Lucky you. With the 6r80 I find the easiest thing to do is set the line lock and let er rip. It’ll spin the tires all the way up to 7500. I just watch the rear view for a good cloud of smoke. And then Release the line lock while in the 2500rpm range. So I can roll out of the burnout hard.

With my 25.7” tires, I’m hoping to shift my 6R80 into 2nd during the burnout for more wheel spin. 1st ain’t be enough and take too long.

Both use the same R compound. Both will perform pretty much identical as well as 555R’s. The 555R’s are better suited for more daily miles, and best in the rain. Followed by SS’s and then NT05R’s.

Yeah, I don't care about rain performance. Seems that a lot of people complain about MT SS taking a ton of weight to balance and still having some vibration. I would prefer the NT05R if they will stick like the MTs. I do need to stick. Lol

The NT05R’s should stick just like the others. Air pressure and tire temperatures near ideal make all the differences in the world. Each tire has a slightly different sweet spot.

I know. I have those now in 275/40r17. I am getting DRs in a 305/35r19 and the street R is not available in that size.

OP, sorry to hijack this thread.

I would choose ET Street SS or NT05R wayyyyy before the Nitto 555R, as long as you aren’t daily driving on them. For daily duties I would choose the Nitto 555R.
