Thanks all for the replies. Looks like I have some more homework to do.
Hard to be patient with these toys, but (in my opinion) you're absolutely right about the homework. You have time. Your OEM wheels are good looking (by most accounts) and purpose built to handle street and track--never heard of them failing. For a non-R, the two things you will get from aftermarket wheels are increased performance (from weight reduction) and personalized appearance. On the other hand, a bad choice may check the appearance box but can lead to damage or even catastrophic failure.

From personal experience, I can only speak to Signature Wheels--great quality, reasonably priced and I can't imagine better service.

Side note, you mentioned you ordered the "street version." Your non-R GT350 will be ready for the track the minute you finish breaking it in (gotta be careful not to start a long argument about exactly how that should be done :) ). The R is MORE track capable in three ways: 1) aero, 2) carbon fiber wheels, 3) lighter weight (from CF wheels and rear seat delete). The 2020 also got a steering geometry change, but the jury is still out on the effects. Aside from that the cars are the same, to include the engine. The point here is that as you look for wheels, etc, it's good to bear in mind the car's potential; you're paying for it, and you may decide to tap into it over time.

The caliper clearance is tight.... and likely at some point a rock will scratch the barrel because of that... HOWEVER... unless you are cleaning the barrels of your wheels, the brake dust is going to hide all that anyway. My calipers look worse from the heat on track than they do from any scratching from the rocks, so I don't really care about that aspect.

Depending on what you want to do with the car and how picky you are about that kind of stuff you may or may not be happy with the wheels.

I personally don't like the style of the apex wheels so there aren't a lot of lower price point options that work for me.

I had the 7-spoke ones on my 16 for around 11000 miles and never had any issues with them with just street and highway use.

Caliper clearance was tight, but I liked the way they looked on the car.

I also owned a set for 10k miles, and I did get one rock stuck on my track pack with 6gr wheels. But I got the same problem with my cf wheel on my R, so....
I recommend the 6GR wheels. I think they look better than the other fully forged wheels, just being so concave... I tracked them too, no issues. I love the look:

I apologize for spreading miss information. Looks like I am also a bit confused.

I thought the project 6GR 350R replica wheels addressed the caliper clearance issue that the OEM carbon fiber wheels have.

like I said, I haven’t installed mine yet so I can’t say for sure. but up until now I hadn’t heard these many negative reviews about the caliper clearance on the 6GR.

I would check with NFS on here, my understanding is they lost their manufacturer for the 7 spoke wheels. Had a set paid for from mid November, finally forced a refund in mid January when they could not deliver. I don't think I have seen them listed on Ebay either anymore.

I had them and would not recommend them. You will have a caliper clearance of about the width of a credit card. Rocks will get in there and will chew up your calipers and wheels.

They are cheap and if you dont mind what comes along with a cheap wheel, then you will have no regrets.
+1

And, I'm the guy that bought the 6GR's from Tomster! My CF's are wrapped up in felt-lined wheel bags all safe and sound. I wanted an affordable replica to use as a street replacement. Tom was very clear that the caliper clearance is razor-thin - he wasn't embellishing. I have noticed small pebbles sometimes get lodged in between the caliper and the wheel barrel, but so far I have had good luck with them and I regularly check all four when I am raising the car up on the lift.

I even went as far as reaching out to the Project 6GR people via email and the owner called me directly to discuss my concerns and reassure me they would stand behind their product in the event the barrel gouging damages the wheels. It was a very positive experience, and I respect what Project6GR is trying to do.

That said, would I do business with Tomster again? Absolutely, without a doubt, great guy. Would I buy these wheels again? Probably not.

Thank you Mike. I take pride in representing things as they are. I went the extra two miles to make sure the wheels were delivered to you in the best way possible.

In the end, we are all brothers. We share the same enthusiasm for our vehicles and I treat people as I would like to be treated.

I recently sold one of my roll cages to an enthusiast like yourself. His name is Pete and he bought a 2016 R with just 2K miles on it. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person when he picked it up and we just talked cars, and talked more cars.

People like you Mike are great to work with. I am glad you are happy with your purchase. It makes me feel good that you are satisfied.

Thanks again,

Tom

Thanks for all the info guys. Tank that is exactly what I have settled on doing. I don't have the scratch to place 4G plus on a set of wheels and 1600 on tires etc right after purchase. So will just run the pilot sport 4s on the stock wheels for now. Upgrade down the road when cash allows. Again everyone thanks for the input.

lots of insight to give, but I will wait. I personally experienced what many others have already mentioned. Led me to where I am now. Kind words have already been spoken. All I will say is here at Signature Wheel we can do more than you thought was possible.

I think that’s a good decision. I don’t know what’s planned but last year he was able to do a group buy and had a Black Friday sale. Maybe the timing will fit into your plans.

Good Luck!

I’ll give @VibeMotorsports a shoutout here. I have their R spec GT-7R wheels in R spec. Light weight and plenty of brake clearance.
Thank you brother, i appreciate the love.
