My 16 has this noise. Been chasing it for years. Keep updated on what dealer says. Not sure if its the transmission or engine.
It has to be the transmission, when out of gear, the engine revs right through with no noise, and you really hear it through the shifter when it’s in gear. I suppose there’s a chance the engine could make that noise under load, but my guess is no.

Well, changed over to BG and it’s still there. Real bummer having an awesome new vehicle like this. Honestly, I think the BG barely made a difference overall, maybe a hair better on cold shifting, in hindsight, I would have just saved my money. I think I’m going to try one more dealer visit (a different one), and if they too say it’s normal, then consider replacing it; it’s THAT annoying, and, of course, right in that rpm range one spends a lot of time in.
Wouldn't you know it, the second I post that and it starts feeling noticeably better... Rattle is still there of course, but it is starting to feel a lot more "fluid".

Riddle me this, riddle me that...

So today I had a lengthy drive and I think I have a new clue (Monday morning I am going to another Ford dealership for a ride with the shop foreman):

When warmed up, the intermittent rattle between 2-3K rpm happens in every gear, but get this, if it’s in 5th or 6th, and I cover the shift knob tightly with my hand, it immediately goes away. What does that mean? If I tightly cover the knob in 1-3rd, nothing changes, and 4th is slightly noticeable.
