Was on my way home from work the other night and had a little run in with a Mercedes Benz E63s AMG. We were both stopped at a light where we were turning left onto a highway. Light turned green and I slowly tipped in to throttle as it’s cold (30 degrees) and was unsure if he wanted to play or not. He proceeded to ride my butt the whole way through first so I just dumped it into second and tried to manage wheel slip the best I could through second and third gear. We were legit neck and neck until I let off (speeds were climbing and the particular Mexican road we were on had a bit of a hill approaching). Gave buddy a thumbs up at next light and he told me it was a 2019 with upgraded intake.

My car is a ‘19 with drop in K&N, x pipe and MBRP axle back.

My money is on the E63 AMG. With a little tweaking, it runs high 10s. I have a friend who has one tuned for E85 and it is insane how fast a 4600 lb. sedan can accelerate!

Ya I know that I was impressed for sure. I was working hard with the manual and trying to keep it straight and he was sipping his coffee haha love the high hp German offerings for sure!

The E63 AMG is on my "short list" for replacing my BMW in a year or two... if I can find a used one I can afford.

he basically let you win... stock + launch control = low 11... a reflash and minor bolts +700hp at the engine...

i wish i could have an E63 amg wagon 4matic... no badges anywhere... just clean sleeper wagon... i would even put the dumb family stickers on the rear windshield... destroying sport/muscle cars on a mom/grandpa wagon is just epic

There was a real nice one for sale on BAT a few days ago. But, the bidding got out of my price range pretty fast!

I love sleepers. They were a lot more common in the old days when you had plenty of latitude about how you optioned a car you ordered. I had a stripper Chevy Biscayne station wagon that had a 409 with 2 4s and a 4 speed. It surprised a lot of muscle cars!

If it was actually an AMG 63 S then at true full tilt you would have gotten your shit pushed in so far it would have been coming out of your mouth. That's like a 600 horsepower car.

603 hp 627 lb-ft at crank stock to be exact. From a dig I would have no chance.

What do you think the parasitic loss is through the MB’s drivetrain being auto?

I use 15% with my car as it’s a manual. Bone stock my car put down 434 rwhp which works out to 499 hp at crank stock. Added drop in K&N, x pipe and MBRP axle back, haven’t re-dynoed the car but I figure it should be sitting between 450-475 rwhp currently. That being said crank hp should be anywhere from 517-550 as it sits.

Yes, I lost, I expected too but the gap isn’t/wasn’t as large as I expected!

As I said earlier in post, I love the German performance car offerings!

without tune? you are probably at 435 rwhp  you are not gonna get 16-30 whp from those mods without a tune...

Sorry, but 15% loss assumption is antiquated; it's more like 10-11% now. And your calculation is backwards. You don't add the loss to the dyno'd number (i.e., 434 x 1.10), you divide by 1.0 minus the loss because the loss is calculated from the crank. So, the correct way to calculate crank hp given rwhp (assuming we agree on drivetrain loss) is rwhp/(1.0-loss); therefore, in your case: 434 rwhp / (1.0-0.10) = 434/0.90 = crank hp = 482 crank hp. Make sure that 434 is SAE corrected, otherwise, that's not a true crank hp value. SAE values are usually lower than the measured value.

For example: if a car has 500 crank hp and loses 10% of it's power through the drivetrain, it would dyno 450 rwhp. To back calculate the crank hp, divide: 450/0.90 = 500 crank hp. Compared to 450 rwhp x 1.10 = 495 hp (your method).

That said, the E63S is a 603 hp car that traps 126 mph in the 1/4 mile, easily 10-11 mph better than an M6 2018 GT. The A10 PP1 GT would stand a better chance (120 mph trap speed per C&D).

Also, no way a drop-in K&N and axle back add that much power. K&N drop in is worth about 7-8 rwhp, and the axle back maybe 2 hp. X pipe not much either. Combined probably 9-10 rwhp.

Had the same experience wiht a e63 until about 80-90 when awd was no longer a advantage and then I said bye-bye. FI is a beautiful thing.

Thanks for the explanation brother. The 434 rwhp was SAE corrected, I have the dyno sheet to prove and you can see the dyno run on YouTube under black19gt.

I don't think 434 rwhp stock, is unheard of - but I believe he was pointing out that a 16-41 rwhp gain (i.e., 450-434 to 475-434) from a panel filter, X-pipe and mufflers is little nuts. Maybe the lower end of 16 (these MY18+ seem to really wake up with the resonator removed), but I think it's probably more like 10-12rwhp (like around 15 crank) for those mods at best case.

Now a tune? That's a whole different story, especially if you're able to source corn fuel, and especially running an E85 specific tune, yeah, those mods + E85, that's a possible ~40rwhp pickup.

Yea I have same mods other than stock mufflers and A lund E85 tune car is scary fast now with the A10.
