So i purchased a 2018 GT350 that had a motor swap under warranty in October of 2019. Is there any way they could have used the gen 2 voodoo with the new updates? Also, is there any way i could check myself via serial number? Thanks!

Pop off the driver's side coil cover and look for the white sticker on the side of the motor. That will tell you what replacement engine you got. Almost 100% sure it will look like this:

Thank you! So i guess if mine says “KA” then it’s a gen 2.
First and second line:
REP (Romeo Engine Plant) 5.2L GT350R
KA (K-Block {2019}) 555 (Associated with GT350R engines in earlier models where 557 was associated with the base)

Bottom Line (Right Side):
Build date = YY (19) DDD (Julian Date - 101st day of the year) 22 (Check Digits) #### (0016 - 16th engine built that day)

But, yes, the K-block designation means it has the "Gen 2" block and shared components with the GT350R.

Did you get a really good deal on your 2018? Just curious why you bought one knowing it had an engine swap...

Mine was replaced with the Gen 3 motor .
GT350RR
Wow! An R-squared motor - must be one of the first ones, I'll bet. I'm holding out for a Gen 5 motor - the Internet says it'll have iridium rods, a depleted uranium flywheel and nuclear-cured pistons with vanadium-tantalum rings. They'll be available next year and I just can't wait!

Don’t forget the flux capacitor and continuum transfunctioner.

I don’t know if you are familiar with the GT350s engine problem, but my car is one of many that had the motor replaced under warranty. I got it for $45k with 5,200 miles so yeah i guess it was kind of a deal, but the title is still clean so it really doesn’t bother me. Plus I plan to modify it so when i sell the car i already won’t be appealing to the “number matching” people anymore. To a guy looking to modify it’s almost a plus to have a brand new motor.

I have not had one swapped, if that is what you mean by familiar with it. However, I have read about several who have had it done on this forum and I know it was not worth the risk of further issues to me. I found several 2018 engine replacement cars in the 45K range at out-of-state dealers when I was looking, but I passed on all of them. I paid $5K more for a 2018 LFG with stripes, that was a single owner, had all the original paperwork, including the owners supplemental and only had 1400 miles. I do not plan to modify mine to any degree and I will probably extend the factory warranty to six years before the 3/36 runs out. It sounds like we both got exactly what we were looking for in a GT350...
