I would not knock the Capri RS myself. Built 4 bangers with big turbo’s are serious business. F1 in 86 had 1.5 liter inline 4 cylinders with big turbo’s pushing 4 bar @ close to 1500 hp. No joke...

I had a 76 442. Still had a 350v8. HUGE car. This was probably the lamest wannabe muscle car I ever owned. But I liked it.

You can build anything to be fast that doesn't mean it's a muscle car.

The Ford Pinto was considered to be one of the worst cars of all time( I don't agree the Vega was) by Time Magazine, as a result of its unstable structure. Its bland appearance was as bland as its performance. With a maximum speed of 85 miles per hour, it was a really slow car.

Well ya gotta consider that the author of the article was at best uninformed or at worst clueless. The 442 was a 71 or 72, not a 79. Why let that big a mistake slip? The 71s still had a little kick to em. FWIW, that Monza can take a 454 small block, drop right in. No one wouldn't call that a muscle car.

The Budget muscle did not necessarily come from the factory folks...

We can spin this a ton of ways. Like attorneys do in trials...

So a turd Pinto (not a Pro Mod or Full tube chassis cars) can run 7’s on LSX turbo.

How many stock bodied s550’s Muscle cars are running 7’s....? For less than 25k. Lol.

I think he may have posted the wrong photo clearly. As you mentioned the early 70 and 71 had some getup still. Here is a photo of a 1979 Olds 442 which was a slug.

Not just a slug, but fugly, too. Gawd those were dark days for cars. Glad I lived long enough to get past all that.

My MIL had a new tan Maverick V8. I think it had plaid seats. It moved pretty good, sleeper.
Mine had a 74 Pinto. Looked like it saw duty at Iwo Jima.

The only real muscle car that I recall from about 1973 until 1990 was the turbo TA. Funny somebody mentioned the Gremlin XR. I think they only built about 20 - 25 of them. But, people found out how easy it was to stuff a big block into one and used Gremlins were cheap. So, there were several big block Chevy Gremlins where I lived. I almost bought one from a friend.

This is the 2nd "muscle car" list I have seen in about a week. My question. When in the history of the world was the Pinto ever considered a muscle car? Also I would absolutely love to have a King Cobra right now

Don
I would also like a King cobra, The Pinto? Never!
