When I ordered my 2015 Mustang GT-PP this is exactly the sort of thing I hoped to do with it. It only took 5 years for it to happen thanks to my summer work schedule. I've had plenty of time to modify it though. For this first OTD I ran my stock PP1 wheels with the stock P-zero tires (255F, 275R).

The video below is from Waterford Hills Raceway open track day, novice H1, session 4, laps 4-6. Decent times (1.22.9 was my best lap) for my first day on a road coarse. I HAD A BLAST. Turned out I could do the whole track in 3rd. I did a couple laps grabbing 2nd for the hill climb and 4th on the back straight but the time in 2 and 4 were SO short I decided to stay in 3rd and focus on everything else.

This video (all the sweet data overlaid) was made with the App "RaceChrono Pro".

My phone connects to:
camera - GoPro Hero 7 Black
gps receiver - QStarz BL-1000GT
data from the car - OBDLink MX+

I put heat wrap on the exhaust near the diff as a precaution after reading some guys doing road coarse days were getting overheated diffs.

Got a little carried away with Painters tape thinking there might be a lot of rocks on the track (there wasn't). I won't bother with painters tape next time.

Track Prep included:
- inspected EVERYTHING
- installed Hawk HP Plus brake pads F&R
- $10 in painters tape
- Titanium exhaust wrap near the rear diff
- bought track day insurance

Loved my first open track day so much I've booked another one. Before this next OTD I've been making some upgrades.

- Changed the engine oil after the first OTD to Royal Purple 5W30
- Installed Steeda SS braided brake lines
- Flushed the whole brake system with TYP 200 brake fluid
- Installed Steeda front Camber Plates so I can get more neg camber at the track
- Changed the Diff fluid to BG Ultraguard LS 75-140
- Changed the Trans fluid to BG Syncro Shift II (WOW, DO THIS!)
- Sold the stock PP1 wheels & tires
- Got four MMR M350 19x10 wheels with RE-71R 285/35R19 track tires (square setup I can rotate)
- "Clocked" all the suspension bushings
- installed Steeda Clutch to Master Cylinder Supply Line Upgrade
- installed McLeod SS clutch line
- installed Mishimoto radiator

I did my 2nd OTD last Sunday at Waterford Hills. I had a blast and improved my lap time by 3 seconds. I scored a 1:20.10 and I was definitely not pushing the car to the limit. The Auto-Blip worked great. I enjoyed rowing gears more this time at the track. I'd go down to 2nd gear for the hill and then 4th on the back straight.

If you guys haven't done an Open Track Day on a road course YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!!

My 3rd OTD and I blew the motor. Track night in America at Gingerman. Motor coughed up a lot of oil out the intake. After it cooled down it would not restart. Tow'd home 3 hours. :crying:

The car has 12,000 miles.

- GT350 Throttle Body
- GT350 intake manifold
- Innovators West balancer
- TSS oil pump gears

Well folks the motor is finally out and apart.

Looks like Oil starvation from HIGH-G + HIGH RPM + HIGH HEAT = two spun rod bearings. The melted bearing material clogged the oil pickup tube resulting in loss of oil pressure. My TSS OPG's did not fail but they are rather scratched up. There does not appear to be ANY valve to piston contact or damage to the heads, pistons, cylinder walls or timing system.

The crank looks toast as well as two rods.

Car looks good. Good luck with the rebuild, and hopefully its back on the road before you know it.

This turned into quite the build! Any way to make sure you dont run into Oil starvation problems again?
