This just in....5star tuning was able to bump it up from 370 to 385 rwhp in an 87 tune and to 400 rwhp on a 93 tune.

For reference, the other truck v8 (f-150 5.0) made 345 rwhp stock and 400 rwhp as well on a 93 tune.

It has been argued that one of these engines is being held back by the factory tune.
The 7.3 makes far more TQ through out the entire power band.

False, but that’s not the point. The point is that the claims you made about the 7.3 making “huge power” with just a tune weren’t true. The truck 5.0 example is there to show that the gains from just a tune are less-than-typical for a ford truck motor. Also, it shows that the 7.3 with just a tune can’t even significantly beat a truck-5.0 in a race application where low-end torque can easily be overcome with converter and gear.

what kind of power are gm's truck engines making? Because thats the real comparison.

The new GM 6.6L gasser makes 401 horsepower and 464 torque. The Dodge Apache 6.4L in HD version makes 410 horsepower and 429lb ft torque. But that doesn't tell the whole story. None of it does. These displacements were put together using heads, cams, compression ratio, and computer tuning to compliment fleet usage, durability, longevity, and having an RPM range that maximizes work out of each revolution without compromising the previously mentioned.

These comments about "there's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much potential!!!!" are just stupid as hell. No shizz. Anything can have performance potential if you strip the damn thing down to the block and just throw speed parts at it as long as they are available. The 6.4L Dodge motor is used in so many applications and each is slightly different in hardware and computer tuning to maximize its operating range. The Chargers and Challengers are rated for 485 horsepower and 475 torque. Could you throw those heads, cams, and tuning onto a Ram 2500 HD? Sure. If your pockets were deep enough, you could rebuild the whole motor wit higher compression pistons, ported heads, a grumpy thumping cam, and a 7000RPM redline too.
