daft question but my car is due it’s 4th service

Can anyone confirm what needs replacing in a 4th service? (V8)

I can’t see anything in my owners book or that meagre service stamp book

Google search gives conflicting opinions from independent websites (some imply same as the small service) others advise check only on plugs and trans/PS fluid and air cleaner

the Ford weblink is to the US customer portal so I dont want to register on that site. They talk about 5k oil changes so it seems we have a different service schedule

I don’t want to use the main dealer so I need a job list for the local indie specialist

Thanks

This is what was done on my cars 4th service at about 40,000 miles by last owner.

there isn’t a great deal more you can do.

engine oil/filter
Air filter
gearbox oil
Diff oil
Brake fluid
Cabin filter
Plugs
Coolant
No fuel filter on the GT. built into the pump in the tank.
Might have missed something but it about sums it up.

good inspection of under side inc pads disks etc.

Ok thanks

I’m impressed with your bill, I was expecting double that for all those fluids at dealer prices

That's a bargain if that's right as I was quoted nearly double that!

Just an update for anyone else with an ageing s550 v8 ready for its 4 year service.

After numerous run ins with the local dealer, now the warranty is out, I took mine to a recommended indie specialising in performance cars. indeed there was a bevvy of tasty yanks outside when i arrived.

Armed with the above job list I booked the car in.

They checked the service schedule and advised that the spark plugs are irridium and will last 100k

The fluids (exc engine oil) are all inspect only and top up as necessary, not replace.

They even advised that the air filter was as new- meaning it’s been previously replaced in error by the dealer...

Anyway that meant a very small bill from a very honest garage!

Paid that much for just the first service at Ford which was only an oil change. My second service in March is £330!

That’s at Hendy Ford in Eastleigh.

But those prices make no sense in the photo. There is no way on earth spark plugs are £3.93 each wherever you buy them.

£4.70 inc Vat. Not unrealistic. I have just bought a set of 8 NGK6510 for £62 or £7.75 each.

Ford Leeds called me today regards my 4th service. £435.00 inc vat!
This does include new plugs.

Wonder what they would say if I produced the invoice Craig kindly posted?

As above, plugs are supposed to last 80k+

These are Ford's recommended maintenance schedules for the average Joe, as car enthusiasts we probably check all the serviceable parts more frequently and replace them at the first sign of degradation.

Still on the Pirelli tyres

Looks quite brave to me.

A good point made to me was while the plugs may well not need changing on the 4 year service, it is a good idea to remove and inspect them due to our old friend corrosion and how they can then seize in the head.
