They can pry my 2069 filters out of my cold dead hands. I’ve had no problems with my owner installed, torqued to spec spin on :like:.
I have a spare one in my cabinet if you want it :)

I agree tank my 16 and early 17 both had spin on filters and they have been around for years on cars without problems. As you said the only difference with the voodoo due to vibration after you lubricate the gasket with oil you have to torque it to specs. Hell it even says what to torque to on top of filter. How difficult is that to do properly?

I suspect that the 5w50 oil being pushed by a high volume oil pump at -20 degrees squashed the Ecoboost filters so a steel reinforced version was designed.
I heard the exact same thing. That the 2062 cartridge could not stand up to the oil pump on the Voodoo and they would actually collapse. Hence the steel mesh and higher price tag.

Hmmm I have the new 19 engine, but even so, my 17 was a cartridge. Guess I need to look into further, or see what my dealership will charge me next time.

Two things...

This filter (assuming you guys were talking about the new 2087) is not made by nor coordinated with Amsoil. I have the Amsoil filters for our car and they do not look alike. Amsoil is not even tracking the 2087 for cross reference purposes, last I talked to their tech department. Of note however, the Amsoil filter (which yes, cross references to the 2062 and not the 2087) looks way more robust than the 2062. The inner supports are still plastic, but like I said, more robust. I would not hesitate to run this filter.

And also, I don't know if anyone else has ran the 2062 for a long time and then swapped to the 2087, but I did, and my oil pressure went up across the board under all driving / temperature conditions.

If you're running the new '19 engine I would seriously recommend you use the only oil filter they specify for that application - FL2087.

Oh I agree fully. If I let the dealer do the next one, I would be sure to watch and make sure they use the right one.

They only charged $14 for labor, the rest was parts! If I’m going to pay that much might as well go amsoil and do it myself.
Yes. Do it yourself.

So what is the consensus on filters for the 2018? 2062 or 2087?

Fun? No, not when on jack stands, but satisfying nonetheless.
And you know the job was done correctly. I dont enjoy it, but it does make me feel better knowing that I wont ever put 8 qts in a 10 qt engine, make a mess, or not torque the filter correctly.

But I ger it..... it's a PITA

Ford did two things that make oil changes in the GT350 a challenge. First, they located the filter in a place that's confined, awkward and hard to keep clean. Second, the oil drain plug is huge and when you take it out, the oil comes out in a torrent that's hard to aim and hard to catch.

Last summer I decided to challenge an assumption I've been making about oil changes for the last, let's say, forty years. Back when I started doing oil changes in the 1970's, engines didn't have hospital-grade air filtration and engine oil collected a lot of unburned fuel, ash and soot because of manual chokes, carburetors and leaded fuel. It was important to change the oil hot - to "make sure any contamination was suspended in the oil so it could be drained out". It dawned on me that modern engines and oils no longer have those problems - incoming air is very well filtered, modern gasoline burns clean, fuel injection systems are very precise, oil filters clean down to the micron and modern oils can keep the few remaining contaminants suspended even when they're cold. Overall, engines are just a whole lot cleaner inside than they used to be and the rationale for changing the oil hot has been overcome by events. So the last oil change on my 2016 was the easiest ever because I did it with the engine cold. You can't burn your hands, the oil flows at a moderate pace and you just have a lot more control over the process.
