Yeah it's a pain in the butt. Not so sure why they designed it like that. A dollar bill helps to get in there and loosen the crap.

Keep an eye on that area for peeling/chipping paint as well, happened to me and guy at the Ford body shop said it was pretty common. Might be partially caused by this as well actually.

I get some tree garbage caught in the windshield gap from time to time. I just break out the J-pick that came with my screwdriver set and start carefully pulling it out. Haven't encountered anything yet that won't pull out (like a rock).

I get small leaves and stuff caught in that gap all the time. Usually I can work it out with a credit card or folded piece of paper or cardboard, but sometimes it gets bound up in there.

Using a J-pick or even air pressure coming in from UNDER the debris to move it up towards the roof will work better than trying to pry it outward or “push” the debris downward to dislodge it.

Also for those using any metal tool such as picks, screw drivers, needle nose pliers, etc. - be extremely careful against any of the exposed edges of the glass. That is the most fragile area; all it takes is one slight hit against the edge or prying up from under the edge with a metal tool and the glass will crack (or can shatter).
