I just reached 5000 miles and I have just put my 3rd quart of oil in.
I know there is a plethora of threads about oil consumption in the pre-19's, but I am curious if my addition of a 3rd quart at 5000 miles is typical?
And yes, my '19 has the "R" engine code.
Has anyone else added similar amounts of oil in their '19?

What's your driving style and use - daily or track? My 2016 consumes oil a bit slower than your car (about 2,000 miles a quart) but it's worst if I'm just running around town. Oil use at the track seems to be less. It's been that way since new and it's at 24,000 miles now.

Hi Dave!

From factory fill to my first oil change at 1650 miles I added zero oil - the level basically never left the top hole on the dipstick.

From 1650 miles to the current 6281 miles I have added zero oil - the level is holding steady at the very top of the hash marks.

That being said, I DD mine and probably treat her a little easier than most.

My idea of a high RPM shift is 5K and I don't do that very often.

Driving style has been all daily except for one spirited day in the North Georgia mountains.

Hello Randy:

We have the same driving habits. I rarely shift past 5K as well.
I don't mind adding oil... I just don't want a catastrophic get well card from the Ford VooDoo Clinic

I think the answer is to keep driving it.

You rarely hear of an oil consumption issue getting better.

Better to wring it out while that powertrain warranty is still covering you.

I'm heading to the North Georgia Mountains for a Polar Bear Express run on New Years Day with several members here... I will wring out the rpm's and make the heads up shift light my frequent friend.

Instead of continually adding oil, monitor the oil level while it stays towards the bottom of the 'ok' range on the dipstick. Sometimes you can be burning off excess by trying to top it off all the time. The dipstick is not an exact calibration. Also suggest adding a passenger side catch can - you may find that part of your oil consumption is blow-by.

I think that's a very good point!

Personally, I would not add oil until the level was at the lower hole, which is supposedly one quart low.

At that point, add half a quart and see where that brings your level, and monitor it from that new reading.

My dad always said I'd rather be a half a quart low than a half a quart over.

Dave, did you install the catch can(s)?

1650 miles and no change in dipstick reading - about center between the two holes. I am still on factory oil fill and have taken it north of 7K rpms a few times. I followed suggested break in and kept it under 6K rpms for 1K miles.

I will be taking for my 1st oil change this spring and will ask my tech if he agrees if I should add a pax side catch can. Perhaps install a FP air filter as well. But I expect under 2k miles per year with April being one year.

No... but let me ask a silly question.
If I install the catch cans, I am still going to be losing oil unless I pour the catch cans back into the crank case?

Oil from the catch cans does not go back into the crank case. It gets disposed of. So yes, you will continue to lose the oil.
