Hell not to sound old but hell I use to have a 2003 dodge neon and when it needed tires I went to the local tire place and for about 80 bucks had tires slapped on it and drove off and was good for another 3 years. Now...jesus... Even my 1998 cobra I could get tires for about 200 bucks. Now you are talking that plus just for one tire. It is easily 800 to 1000 by time done with mounting, balance, tpms and the tires themselves. It's becoming a major expense like a medical bill or a house payment to have tires on a car. Tires!!! I mean seriously the tech behind tires hasn't changed that much. And have you seen those how its made videos? They make a tire in about 4 mins. Have family here that works at continental tire plant here in Asheville NC and they say same that they have next to nothing into making them. How some of you change tires and wheels like shoes I have no idea. And it's not just mustangs or performance cars My girlfriends Juke they were 180 each for tires and then 180 to mount and all the BS.

We as a family pay a lot of our bills via a credit card. We pay it off each month to avoid interest.

I save my "cash back" money to pay for tires. My 305/30/19's are about a 1400-1600 dollar experience.

Jesus here.... Yeah they've been pretty expensive for a good while I've found.
LOL I figured. I am afflicted with the I trade my cars too often syndrome so has been some time since I bought new tires for a car.

Yeah I had a 2013 Camaro SS before this & that thing ate rear tires like candy. Even my local tire guy used to make fun of me that there must be a Camaro leaving black marks all over the city LOL. But I wasn't doing any burnouts not one....About $300 a tire for it where I live and never over 11000 miles on a rear tire. It was sold with its 4th set of tires at around 40000 miles this past year. Oh and it was a staggered setup which made it worse. I'm hoping this GT with a square setup and only 19's instead of 20's is better in this regard.

I paid around $175/tire mount and balanced for 275/40/19 on the rear. That’s about as low as it’s going to get without buying a trash tire.

Free shipping usually, I have been doing 295 35 20 potenza s007's. Sometimes they have been repaired but they have been fine for me
Interesting read.basically you get what you pay for.our cars have tires designed for our car.stopping, turning, driving in rain etc.all that engineering and chemistry, testing go onto a low production car.if they sold 200,000 gts,the tires would be less expensive.i had a low production 2008 caddy xts v that had $500 tires, and they only made 2000 of them, all supercharged cars.

Tire tech has changed. And material costs are always on the rise. Rubber is petroleum based.

I don't think it's a new thing...in 1996 or so, I tore up a Goodyear Eagle GS-C on a Camaro, I think it was just 245/50 16-inch, and to replace it was close to $300. I was in a bind, so I'm sure the Goodyear dealer was charging me full retail and maybe a little extra...

Tires are like everything else. Every time a CEO gets a raise, the product the company sells gets a raise as well.

LOL this is what I started doing as well. I just hunt down peopel who like to change tires alot and then their wives are all get those tires out of my garage. I got fire stone firehawk on rear and pirelli pzeros on front for for 400 bucks with only a few hundred miles on them. I have also noticed on our classifieds here you can find wheel and tire sets for less then the cost of new tires. it's like getting tires for sale and a set of wheels for free. then resell the wheels. just hunt down the ones with only a few miles on them.

What’s sad is they don’t seem to last. I remember when tires seemed to dry rot by the time they needed changing. Now your lucky to get 40k miles out of any tire, suv etc.
