Those are required options for sure. Didn't realize the suspension was extra on top of the z51 package, so yeah, seems pretty close then comparing that spec to a base spec GT500. I would suspect the GT500 comes with more options in the base model than the c8 too, since we're comparing the top mustang to the bottom vette.
Yeah GM nickels and dimes you with the C8. If you want HUD you have to get the 2LT package and it’s over $7K. The sweet spot on the C8 is around $75-80K. That buys you a lot of car. But if you start loading them up they are $90K+. Loaded convertibles are $100K.

First I’ll say wow, bass GT500 is impressive. But that’s what a 260hp advantage does at a track like VIR! I would doubt there’s a faster sub 550 hp car may not even be one at 600. I wish they would’ve done it at Laguna where we have a very complete list of cars/times Randy has driven. I’m sure eventually both will be tested there

Bravo Ford! I bitched about how long it took to release this car. Apparently they were just taking their time. So they could build a world class car.

Just did some building on both Chevy and Fords website if you option both cars equally. Only suspension mods to corvette and GT500 no track pack they are 600$ apart on cost for the minimums to make them the same.$79,900 for the Vette and $80,600 for the GT500. If you fully load both of them the GT500 is cheaper even with the track pack. If anyone thinks the Supercharged C8 is gonna be cheaper than the GT500 I would highly doubt it. $97,040 for the Vette fully loaded and $96,685 for the GT500 Trackpack fully loaded.

A GT500 with no options vs the C8 with the Z51 package and Magnaride suspension upgrade.

Is that C8 Z51 time with the track alignment or street alignment? I am guessing track?

But per the article the base GT500 was very close to the C8 Z51 so I’m gonna say the base GT500 is slightly faster at VIR. The GT500 CFTP version will be much faster and not really in the same ballpark. Have to wait for the C8 Z06.

I’m going to paraphrase a Camaro enthusiast.... ahem “ You go to war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had”.
Rumsfeld drives a Camaro? I figured him more for an Abrams. If the competition was going too fast, a sabot round would take care of that. :) "reach out and touch someone" at it's finest.

What? Does none recall the GT350 and GT350R being compared against the ZL1...for the past several years?
The zl1 was being compared to the regular 350. R was vs the Z 1LE. The regular zl1 competing with a gt350r is a compliment to the regular zl1. Against the Z 1LE, R doesnt stand a chance.
Take these cars to the street it's even worse for both 350s. I have nothing against the 350 and would take an R over the any camaro, its just some of us arent blind to the truth.

GT500 trounces the ZL1, about time since the ZL1 has been whooping ass since 2016.
Cant wait to see them go head to head with same driver same day at Laguna.

So there is a video pop up that shows the lap videos with data for the base 500 handling pack vs the the track alignment Z51 C8.
GT500 handling pack 1:59.68
C8 Z51 track alignment 2:00.96

That is crazy I didnt think the c8 would be that quick. VIR is a power track and it does pretty well despite having under 500hp.

The C8 feels cramps inside and not a very nice place to be as a passenger. If you sit in the car as a passenger there is a wall between you and the driver and no easy way to see reach any controls. Like the head unit.
pish tosh. You're supposed to be basking in the privilege of being present in the car at all. :) Though I agree, the screen should be at a more neutral cant or on a rocker.

Definitely a waste of money for those who buy the track versions and don't race them.
ZR: Believe it or not, some people will buy the Snack Pack for the looks and CF. Ditto for painted stripes. For me, the look of the car is the most important. I'm too old to be taking a vehicle to either type of track. Sooner or later, we all come up against the wall of age, unfortunately.

The base GT500 was 1.28 seconds faster than the C8 Z51 with track chassis setup. That’s an ass whooping.

This is interesting: "So, to the numbers: Lap times for the C8 Z51 and the standard GT500 were quite comparable, though achieved in different ways. The Shelby evaporates the straights; the C8 carves the corners."
Lap times are in the video if you watch it

Here is a (fast) Friend driving a 1LE around VIR to 1:59.00

Guessing the car is not stock. At least it doesn’t sound stock to me and I have some seat time in a ZLE.
