My engine does this, too, but only when cold and up to around 2.2k rpm. I just wrote this off as a characteristic of the engine because all vital signs like oil pressure and fuel trims are in check. This is probably coming from the variable engine timing mechanism.
I’m interested in hearing what caused that noise as I am probably trading my GT for a 2020 EcoBoost.
I can hear it clearly in the video and reading that it only happens when the motor is cold, so it could be an exhaust leak, or oil supply issue, or perhaps a clearance issue internally that goes away when the components heat up?
Anyway us guys that have the older 2.3 Lima turbos have learned not to go into boost until the motor is up to operating temp.
