noticed today on the paint work near to where the boot shuts i have a small bit of laquer that looks like it has come away. the boot is not catching so i dont think its that but wondering if this is likely to be covered under the warranty? car is only just over a year old and i cant see how i could have done it myself. do ford make life very difficult for paintwork stuff if im not the original owner?

I'm an automotive design Engineer & have worked for Ford in the past, including closures.

A picture of the area effected would help, but if I understand your post correctly, obviously, the boot lid should not be contacting any of the adjacent panels to cause lacquer damage.

Body panel alignment, gap & flush on my Mustang is shockingly bad, so it wouldn't surprise me there may be cars out there with panels & closures so poorly aligned there's unintended contact with the subsequent results.

Should be covered by warranty as a manufacturing assembly issue, so long as you haven't done anything to alter panel alignment!

When they first landed here in the UK quite a few people had this problem, the bottom of the black plastic which has the Pony/GT logo on it would rub on the bumper.

rang my local ford yesterday who conveniently are not a body shop and advised to me to find a bodyshop approved ford centre of which there are none near me particularly so they seem to be making life just that bit diificult already. took it to my local bodyshop and im waiting on a price to do it because if its only a couple of hundred pounds might just get them to do it rather than the aggro of trying to fight it through the warranty. not great though :(

Is your car over a year old? Good luck, I have the same issue and so far 5 weeks i've been fighting this on my blue 2017 18 plate. Same as you the two points at the back have caught on mine and the bits either side where the spoiler would sit have caught on the sides.

8 months for them to fix a rusted bonnet now the paint that was done by the "ford specialist dealer" is actually cracking off the bonnet and there's grit between the paint and the clear coat. I knew it wasn't a brilliant job when i picked it up but the fact its cracking away means they've seriously fucked up.

Now ofc the car is out of its primary warranty even though the repair was done less than 6 months ago so they're pretty much wiping their hands of it now and refusing to fix their fuck up in the first place.

You'll be better off just biting the bullet and paying for it yourself than attempting to get ford to fix/do anything.
