Bikeman315 I am working on it. I have 2 dealers lined up for tomorrow. They say they will only deal if I am sitting in a chair in front of them.
Good to hear. The "i'll only play if you come in" is so 20th century. These days many deals are made totally online. Only go into the dealer to sign the papers and get the car. That said, play one dealer off the other even if you have to stretch the truth a little. The second the dealer starts getting bitchy stand up and walk to the door & out, do not look back. Best of Luck!!

Yup. Drive to the other dealer. Or just go find a coffee shop or gas station. If you've made it abundantly clear that the only number you will accept is 32K, and all they're doing is testing your mettle, they will call you. "I'm not coming back unless you meet my number. Do you want to sell me a car today or not?"

I open my bid at 500 below my max price. In the case of eg. https://www.brandonford.com/vehicle-details/new-2019-ford-mustang-gt-tampa-fl-id-28505513
at 31K OTD. So I'd offer 30.5K OTD. Read their reaction. THey'll probably counter with 33 (tax is what 6%?). Be firm, "sorry, you're going to do a lot better than that." They might come down 300 bucks. "nope, try again. I'll come your way to 30.8 OTD". They might try 32.5. "Nope, you've had this car on your lot since January. That it haven't sold it yet is YOUR problem, not mine. I'll do 31K final offer". They'll probably try to wheedle you over the extra grand or so "If you want to sell me this car today, I'll accept not a penny over 31 (or if you prefer 31.2)" If they kevetch, be polite, thank them for their time and LEAVE. I give them 2 rounds to jerk my chain and after that all they get is "no, you have my number, hit it or I'm leaving."

If they can taste a sale they'll pursue you. You don't have to justify to them why you're sticking to your number. You might not close the sale that day but give it 3 days and ask the sales guy, "So, have you guys decided you want to sell me that car yet?"

Whatever you do, watch that paperwork like a HAWK. Calculate BEFOREHAND what the price of the car is accounting for their paperwork fee (legally required to be applied to ALL transactions, they can't waive it) and their Elec-Filing fee, and the sales tax rate. That way when they itemize the car, freight and so forth you can cross-check their numbers.

Well, this weekend didn't go so well. First dealer had 2 cars in the price range that I needed. I test drove both and for some reason they both had brake problems. 1 had 8 miles the other 12. Whenever you came to a stop the car would shudder and you would get alot of kickback from the brake pedal. This is from 40-0 mph. and 30-0 mph. If you have ever driven a car with warped rotors that is the exact syndrome I am talking about. A tech took 1 out and agreed with me. They are trying to find out what the problem was.

Second dealer wasn't budging below $35k on a semi loaded GT. We then found a 2020 we could get at a better price, But rebate is only $250.00 vs. $2,500.00 on the '19s. I'll figure this out...eventually, even if I have to come up a little on the $.

Maybe I’m just a glass half full kind of guy put I think you had a pretty good weekend. You found cars that you liked in the price range you were looking for. Check back with the first dealer about the brakes. Funny to have two low mileage cars with the same issue. As far as the second I hope you gave him your number with instructions to call you when he is ready to deal. If that car doesn’t sell he will call.

I bought a base manual. All it had was the black accent package with 3.55s. I cared more about the gear ratio than anything. I could give two shits about the bells and whistles but I'm 43. Hell I rarely use the radio unless it's a long freeway drive.

I wanted the gears, the engine and a manual. Simple man. I got the car for 31 otd but that was in 16'.

You’re never going to one up a dealership. Dealers are like the casino... house always wins in the long-run. And the end of the day find something that make you happy, price & options. And take it. Life is too short to worry about did I get em it didn’t.
