Why are cars with 100-200 horsepower less so close in performance? I guess it's the weight of the GT350?
Also interesting that they tested 2 cars on 91 octane.
Actually the M2 weighs basically the same. The Cayman weighs about 674lbs less than the GT350.The Supra weighs about 290lbs less than the GT350.

I would say that the Mustang is a relatively big car compared to the others in this test, plus the manual transmission slows it down a little. Impressive what Ford has done with it. And I get it - numbers are meaningful - even if enjoyment is the real reason most of us pick a car. IMO take the numbers with a grain of salt, drive the cars and buy based on what you like. Just because a car reviewer likes the GT350 doesn't mean that's what you will prefer.

Weight/Gearing/Transmission. The GT350 is not geared for optimum 1/4 times. A lot of really fast 0 to 60 cars are slow 60 to 120. Car manufactures know 0 to 60 sell.

Yeah the Senna set a new lap record and it absolutely crushed the GT3 RS time.

Did they publish the 2020 GT350 lap time in the magazine?

Says something about their list when they went faster in a 1LE than a 17 Ford GT :cwl:

I will look it up tonight from the film on Motor Trend On Demand. I watched it last night but I don't remember the exact time.

To be useful, they all have to be on the same day, same driver, in fact, different drivers for all cars. Meaning they all drive each car
The post I quoted was already comparing times across different years (2018 Ford GT time vs. 2019 ZL1 1LE time), so pointing out that they went 2.5s faster in a GT a year earlier is no less relevant. Within the same year/ visit, the GT time set in 2018 is faster than the 2018 ZL1 1LE time set in 2018, also (but only by 0.2s, which does suggest the drivers were not getting everything out of the GT).

i'm sure i am ignorant in this, i confess i am quite the amateur compared to many of you on the track, but it just seems to me there are so many variables that come into play for lap times. it would "seem" to me the only real way to compare two cars, say a GT350R and a ZL1 1LE, is to have the:

-same driver (let's say randy pobst)
-same 2 cars
-same track conditions, weather
-run the avg of 3 times for each car

again just my neophyte thoughts on the matter.

sheesh, i didnt even see your post above. but yeah pretty much my thoughts.

i've just always wondered when seeing lap times how one fan base could gloat their car is better based on 1 published time over another.

i wonder how bad pobst in a gt350r would beat me in a senna. best of 3 runs! :cwl:
