Well, the roof has started creaking like a 100 year old house and water is dripping into the driver's side when it rains hard. So much for my trust in newer Ford quality. Sigh. Off to the dealer on Monday. Only 3500 miles and it's developing problems.

Sorry, just feeling cranky on a Friday afternoon.

i have had a 2016 and roof was changed after 1.5 years due to little cuts coming from mecanism that was pinching the roof material. On my 2018 same thing, same age not the same place but roof is going to be changed. I don t understand how ford can make so bad roof design after 50 years

Yikes, that's not good. Mine appears to be leaking at the roof/window joint, so it may be a seal or window adjustment (vs. the fabric getting ripped).

That sucks - I hope you get it fixed!

Even though I traded my '17 vert for a Fiesta ST 3 months ago I still lurk here and want to jump in for you guys because I had the same problems with my roof. First, the roof is manufactured by a vendor selected by Ford. Unfortunately the mechanics at your Ford dealer know little about fixing these problems.
When I had the leaks at the front corners in heavy rains I found that the intricate channels in the weather stripping were being overwhelmed. My fix was to meticulously clean those channels with a household degreasing liquid then coat with silicone spray. You also need to inspect those weather strips to make sure they are properly seated. Mine were crimped and not snug in several places. After these procedures my leaks were fixed.
My vert was fun for two years and although it was my first convertible it will be my last.

Hey man, thanks much for popping-in and providing that info. The top is an intricate piece of machinery and it wouldn't surprise me if the local techs got nowhere. Good to know about the cleaning and lubricating. I will make sure to stay on top of that, even if the Ford guys "fix" the issue. Frankly, I'm more concerned about the creaking and rattling. It gets BAD in certain conditions. The leak has only been 3 or 4 drops of water in very heavy rains. Sounds silly, but I could live with that if they can't fix it (it's not like I live in Seattle). :)

Sorry to hear you got out of your vert. I hope the Fiesta is working out for you - I've heard they're a blast to drive.

So the dealer is ordering new weather stripping for the drivers side of the top, and they're ordering new parts for the handle to fix the creaking sound. I have to say they've been very communicative and easy to work with so far.

And for more fun and games I got a screw in the sidewall on the way to the dealer. Yea for buying a new tire.

Sigh.

Just a follow up to the repairs. We're getting closer!

1. I had to pay for a new tire. The screw was too close to the sidewall to patch. Such is life.
2. They replaced a piece of rubber weather stripping on the top, on the drivers side edge where the leak was. We've had a lot of rain and it hasn't leaked since. Hoping this is a permanent fix.
3. They heard the rattle in the top and traced it to the latch above the drivers head. They ordered a replacement but they ordered the wrong part and got the passenger side replacement latch instead. The correct drivers side latch is on order and I'm bringing the car back to service this coming Thursday to have it fixed.

I have to say that the service department has been nothing but friendly and professional so far.

I'll post back later this week with the latch status.

The dealership finally got the rattle fixed. They claimed they fixed about a week ago but when I picked it up it was still making the noise. They had me ride around with the shop foreman and he heard it. He told me they wouldn't give it back until he had personally driven it and verified that the rattle was fixed. In the meantime they gave me a FLEX loaner (it's huge but drives pretty nice).

Picked up the Mustang last night and they did a great job fixing it. The service manager told me that they had to order some new clips as well as adjust both the drivers side and the passenger side latches. Anyway, good to have a non-rattling top! And it's still not leaking water, so that fix is holding as well.

Now to shop for a long term comprehensive warranty! LOL.

Your rear side windows may not close as tight as they should if the window track rubber gets dried out, which can allow some water penetration. I spray silicone lube on the rubber at least once a year.

Mine has proven to be totally water tight, have been in two very impressive downpours. But I never allow the roof to get dirty and am always checking and cleaning the rubber seals and drain holes. I also clean the roof every couple of weeks and reseal it around every 6 months with 303 which works brilliantly at repealing water - I only park outside when at work other wise it's under cover.

As others have said - the rear quarters, trick one - always do them up first, trick two make sure they are always clean and lubed - otherwise they will stick.

Only issue I had was the inner liner was getting caught in the mechanism and caused it to be damaged they fixed this with a new inner liner which was repaired by a specialist soft top repair company in Melbourne.

I've traveled 73,000km so 45,000 miles in the US language, mine is a daily driver owned for almost 3 years no complaints yet with the roof as far as leaking is concerned. Mine is a 2019, manufactured in late 2018 FN
