I am looking at doing some axle back exhaust on my new '19GT. I had the Roush axle back on my last car, and liked them pretty well. I am assuming the set up for '19 would produce similar volume levels as what was on my '17. So I was reading the reviews on American Muscle, and saw a few pictures where the exhaust looks like it is hanging too low. It could just be from the angle the picture was taken at, but several reviews mention them hanging too low. Anyone have any issues with that?

Thanks,
Shawn

You have to modify the hangers. The tips are also too small.

Anyone else have any input? Anything else that would be recommend over the Roush set up? I had them on my last car, and was happy with the look and the sound.

While I don't have Roush AB's, the Borla's and the FRPP X-pipe I do have will hang too low if I do not jack them up as high as possible while tightening down the tubing clamps and hangers.

I have the cat-back. I don't think they hang too low but the tips are small compared to the clearance the valence provides.

Well American Muscle had a open box Roush axle back set for $450. I went ahead and snagged it up. Hopefully they don't come in beat to hell, and fit the car well. Hopefully will have time to do the install Saturday. Will report back on how it goes. I really liked the set I had on my '17, so keeping my fingers crossed these will work out the same way.

It was on the regular detail page for the Roush axle backs. I just checked, and that option doesn't seem to be listed. They must of only had one or two of them.

Have a couple jacks and some blocks handy. You can loosen the hanger mount bolts and adjust the height. Jack the piping up in the right area (go 0.5 to 1 inch higher than you want the final position), then tighten the bolts and clams, and let the jacks down after everything is tight. It's a pain in the arse to get just right. I bought mine used with Corsa 4" tips welded on. The tips make things a lot easier, as they fill a lot of empty space. Mine still aren't perfect side to side if you look closely.

I had no problem with the installing and fitment of the Roush AB, but the smaller than stock tips are a little disappointing. I measured them when I received the system and they are exactly 3.5" OD so I have no idea whey they mention 4" tips in the description.(maybe they're 4" long...idk) I plan on swapping to the Corsa 4" tips as they look much better but are $280+. IMHO the sound from the Roush AB is worth it though.

I put a Roush cat-back exhaust system on my buddies '18 GT. The fitment was pretty good, but it doesn't sit up under the cutout for the exhaust like previous model year Mustangs. I tried to adjust the system 4 or 5 times but it never made it better. I'll try to snap a few pics and post them tonight. But yes, it does hang a little lower than previous model years.

Yeah I've looked at all the online pictures i can find, and some seem to look really well positioned, and some seem to look like they hang too low. If I get basically face level behind my GT now, they are not completely up in the cutouts in the bumper either. The pass. side is very slightly crooked as well. I figured for the kind of money I paid for this system, it was worth the gamble. If I don't like it, I can probably sell it and get most of my investment back. Mufflerless axle backs go for about the same price, so it's worth a shot.

Well I received the Axle back kit today. The original box it was in was kinda beat up, but it's a brand new kit still in the plastic. So good job on that American Muscle. With that being said, and after looking at all the pictures I can find online, I am just not sure I want to live with the droopy look. I hate to cut my O.E. exhaust off to dislike the look of these. I like the look of the stock mufflers better, just wish they were louder. So I've got some thinking about what to do before I break out my sawsall. First world problems right...

Well, I had the day off, my wife had to work, and my parents wanted to watch the baby. Ya know what they say about idle hands. So this will be a walk through on the install and initial thoughts on a Roush Axle back exhaust on a '19 GT. We will get down to the bottom of this fitment issue.

The start.

The passenger side is almost a half inch lower, fresh from the factory. I might see if I can adjust in the future to solve this

There is just something about taking a sawsall to a 11 day old car,

This is what all the reviews are missing. A direct comparison. The stock exhaust hangs pretty low if you get down on the ground and look at it.. Get down eye level and look at them. The difference is the Roush tips are 1/2 inch smaller in diameter. This is a direct comparison.

Might be louder, might weigh a little less as well.

Sits in the cutout? droop, or no droop? No question. There is no way this system look worse than the O.E. system. I know it's hard to show in pictures, but in person it's a substantial improvement.

So these are the before and after measurements. Remember the passenger side was a little lower to begin with. There's pretty much no change in drop other than the difference in tip size. It's pretty much an optical illusion because of the reflection of the muffler behind the bumper and the valence.

Left Side.

The overall picture here. This is my third Coyote in two and a half years. So far this one has been my favorite.

I think my biggest complaint, I don't like how far the tips stick out. They are at least an inch out further than the stock tips. This adds to the droopy look. It's not bad, but they would look tighter, and more similar to the stock tips, and other axle back systems if they were a bit shorter. I could cut them down some, and get them back up closer to the bumper, and I may do that at some point.

Now for the sound, and that's something that has never been in question for me. I've had this axle back setup on my last two Mustangs, both '17 models. I really liked it on both of them, and I like it even more on this car. It had almost the perfect volume on the my last two GTs, but I always wanted just a little more volume under hard acceleration. The'18 up GTs are far louder from the factory. I mean at least double. The '15-'17 was way too quiet for what it was. With that added volume on the '18 up cars comes added volume with axle back exhaust. I'm not one to like obnoxiously loud cars, and this one is about as close as you can get without going over that line. Quiet when you want, and fairly loud when you don't. Overall, I'm glad I went ahead and installed it. I may shorten up the tips at some point in the future. Even if I didn't though, I would be satisfied with this system, especially for the cost. Best bang for your buck if you want to keep mufflers, at least in my opinion.

Looks fine to me, but if you still aren't happy, welding on some Corsa tips is the space filling solution.
