The Porsche's torque comes on early, and I would think it's way more fun to drive on the street. 3.0 seconds to 60 is hauling A. But geez, for the money it should be better. You can get an AMG GT for that kind of money too.

When I drove the F430 Scuderia on track I wasn't impressed. Tire grip not that good, brakes get hot fast.. the GT3 is much quicker and so is the GT350 (regular GT350, not the R). The DCT in the Ferrari was good - if you like a DCT. I don't.

The F430 is great garage art, though. And it has a nicer interior than the GT350.

For over 100k, I would not hesitate a second to buy F430 instead of a Porsche. We are entering supercar territory at those prices, can't see why you would buy a beetle for over 100k, as good as it might be.
Because maintenance costs of the F430 will deter the average F buyer to really drive or God forbid track the car.......

Looks like they tested at Laguna Seca, so the times should be in the 1:3x range (think typo was on 911). This means the new/revised 350 with a 1:36.83 time is 0.7 secs slower than the original 350R lap time. Impressive!

Couldn't disagree more, the PCar can be driven as a daily. I have always liked Porsches more than Ferrari. People take their 911s skiing.

retail-bought Cup2s you're probably correct. OEM Cup2's can be specialized - just because they can. There's probably some code on the sidewall that differentiates compounds and construction despite the marketing (trade) name being the same. It's VERY common practice in motorcycle tires.
You are correct that these tires can be custom spec for manufacturers. My issue was with the statement the 350's Cup 2 tires weren't tracked focused. They are all track focused and I doubt there is much difference between Corvette, Mustang and any other manufacturer that specs Cup 2 tires for their high performance cars. I think that is more for advertising purposes. Just my opinion.

Most interesting comment in this thread given the price difference especially entering the 20 model year.

Not a same day same driver comparison, but still interesting.

I'm assuming Pobst did this lap (we'll probably find out in the print version) as he does all the Laguna laps for MT and he's such a good driver that any lap done by him is going to represent nearly the max ability of the car. Regardless of the day, would expect around a ~2 sec difference between the v1 350 and the R given the deltas in other tracks between the two cars plus this is a nearly sea-level track with not that much temp variation for 9 months of the year on a sunny day. Said another way, I don't think even the most perfect conditions can improve much upon a 1:36 - 1:37 lap time for these cars, as that lap time is very fast and is totally in line with other competitors (all different days as well).

Also, to be fair, based on Billy Johnson's comments re ABS reprogramming and the front knuckle changes, the 2020 R should be doing high 1.34s-1.35s.

Agree with those who said why not the R. Or, the 500 which is going to destroy the 911 performance wise (no disrespect to the 911, fantastic car)

If those changes manage to find a solid second if not more, then whoever designed the original needs to be whipped.

It was not a turbo model. I think this was a marketing peace. The GT350 was meant to lose but it was meant to be a feel good story of the underdog.

Compare a car to a car it should never beat, have it lose but say it was close, everyone is happy.

The R tires are more track focused than the porsches. I saw the porsche Cup 2s at the track and my NEW R Cup 2s look bald in comparison. I would guess the 2019s Cups are similar to the porsches.
This could be true, but it is definitely a more stickier tire than the PZero that the PCar comes with. Pirelli for some reason always manages to get the OEM designation for the PCar.

Also, the OEM tire for the GT350 has a wear rating of 180 vs. the Mich PS4s that are 300. This is a apples to apples comparison as its ratings is from the same manufacturer Michelin.

I'm amazed at the acceleration Porsche gets out of its cars. They seem to get the most acceleration per hp out there. 123.8 mph trap speed in the 1/4 mile with 443 hp? And it's not like it's 3,100 lbs, it weighs 3,425 lbs. Aside from the 0-60 mph in 3 secs. (helped by the additional traction of the rear engine), that 911 would also essentially hang with a ZL1 or Hellcat from a roll on the highway with a much worse lbs:hp ratio than either car.
