What roll cages have you guys bought that are 8.50 certified? No less than 10pt.
Need one asap.

The watson drag race bar is 8.50 legal. Massive invasion into the interior tho. Cutting dash bars in and whatnot. Best bet would be to have one made that goes around the dash instead of through it, but then it would take up prime real estate getting into and out of the car. Sub 10 second becomes race car material. A ton of guys run faster and skirt the track rules until they can't.

Yeah I've been told I can't run at the track anymore lol.
I also want to start doing more track events as well so figured it was time. Not worried about going through the dash or anything invasive.

The Fatfab cage kit looks nice, but I have no experience with it.

Yeah I saw theirs! I like how it's way up against the headliner.

Race car problems.

I keep getting kicked out but they don’t “know” me yet in that they still tech me in before every event.

Eventually that will go away and I’ll be asked to not come back unless I have a cage AND parachute.

Sucks .... I do not plan to do either so I guess I’ll just slow it down for now.

Sorry OP! The struggle is real lmaooo

I ordered from Ben at FatHouseFab. He answered all of my many questions and was very patient as I was looking for a local weld shop to put it in. I should have the kit late October/early Nov and installation shortly after.

What I went with:
  • 8.50 cage kit, 10 pt
  • Chromoly
  • No swing outs (race car life - can always add swing outs in the future)
  • Parachute ceiling bar
  • Window net
  • Gussets
No harm in sending him a PM to discuss more.

unfortunately There is nothing cheap or quick about getting an 8.50 cert cage installed. Took about 40 hours just to re-install my interior after cage was fabbed, dropped through the floor, finish welded, paint, welded to floor plates, paint some more. If reputable shop does it right, you can expect to pay $6500-7500. Not sure of cost if you have someone install a pre bent kit.

I value my safety more than cutting any corners or being thrifty with this part of my car. Tin Soldier Racecars built my cage & did a phenomenal job. They will sell a pre bent kit based off my car. Ben @ FatFab sells a very good kit also. He’s a great guy to deal with & cuts no corners.

StrRacecars are a lot of fun

I am in the same situation but I am not ready to pull the trigger on a full cage. So far I have made multiple mid to low 9 second passes at local tracks without being thrown out. I have a 6 point Watson I am planning to throw in for a bit more safety. I would much rather have the bars go through the dash. The cage looks like crap when it wraps in front of the dash.

Russ, as far as a prebent kit goes, I think Fathouse has the nicest kit on the market. The Watson one is built for the cobra jet cars so they dont care much about fit and finish. Supposedly they're on revision 2 that is supposed to bring it all a little bit closer to the A-Pillar but why risk it. If not Fathouse your best bet is going custom. Ball Metal Fabrications in Arkansas did SCT Chase's and that thing is gorgeous! You might as well do swing out door bars now because anything sub 8.5 cert can't have them so enjoy them while you still can lol

Ben, do you guys have good pictures on s550's of where the rear diagonal bars come through the rear package tray and where it comes through the dash at?

I cant seem to find any pictures of how it routes through the rear decklid but it will clear your factory seats and you can fit a rear seat delete in with some trimming.

Here are some pics of where it goes through the dash at.

Did you end up with a dash bar, or something that ties into steering column?
