Side note: we do homemade slaw all the time, sometimes totally from scratch (like a head of cabbage, etc), but usually some pre-shredded with our own dressing.

Dressing:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Whisk, mix, let sit in fridge.

That's a recipe from online weuse, but we do way less sugar, a bit more vinegar!

I always make mine specifically for my smoked pulled pork sandwiches. on it's own there are for sure better cole claws. I do a little bit more mayo, less vinegar, and less sugar to give it a good balance with the smoke and sweetness bbq sauce.

I’ll have to try that when I smoke the brisket this weekend...

Instead of mayo, try a mix of Thousand Island dressing with sriracha.

If you're real brave, add some thinly sliced serrano peppers.

Nice, yea, we haven't done Thousand Island, but we have done hot sauce(s), favorite is a local Datil pepper, solid heat, a little sweet. We do it like that for when we make fish tacos, blacked fresh grouper, that heat'ed up slaw, wow!
