rain on a hot exhaust is unlikely to be the problem. it's the retained moisture when at ambient that keeps fluid against the metal and exacerbates corrosion.

So as stated I have wrapped exhaust. I don't drive much in the rain but had the chance driving on the road, raining, then went to my shop and put the car on the lift to check it out. The exhaust and wrap were bone dry.

I guess we'll see.

@aleccolin Did you ever test the heat shields? Really liking this idea, especially that first flexible version for the exhaust curve around the diff.
I just installed the thermotec heatshield. I'll be tracking the next weekend at Buttonwillow, I'll let you guys know how well it works. Here are some photos.

Are you able to datalog the diff temp, or at least display it in the gauge cluster? I never figured that out.

*you* can't display I think. That was enabled in 2018 or 19. I can see it. Something in the ECU is reading the temp and throws an error so datalog should be possible - you may need a CAN equipped OBD reader though.

Next track season I'm going to try manually logging diff temps, alerts if the pop up and air temp that day.

What size did you purchase, if I may?

Any other preferred choices to know about? I read (most of the whole) thread, and was wondering guys if, after your experiences, any recommendations for a newbie in similar situation before you did your installs would be of value... please and thanks!

Install was pretty straight forward. Here's the size and model I purchased.

That's a good find, must be fairly new.

Would accomplish the same goal basically, but I think the Thermo-Tec would be a little easier to conform to the bends in the exhaust, plus the argument about heat and scavenging isn't going to be significant that far back in the system.

Still looks like a good product, HeatShield makes quality stuff, def. going to use some of their sticky shield on the tunnel; since going to an X-pipe I get a lot more heat into the cabin through the tunnel/console, but only noticeable on track or while really giving her a hot supper backroading.

After reading this entire thread, I too believe that the Heatshield Products Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield kits would be the most economical and easiest solution to this issue. I plan on purchasing this product and testing it at Chuckwalla in February.

Differential didn't overheat at the track, it was hovering around 200 degrees based on the digital read out on the dash. Here are some factors to consider, i was pushing the car maybe 70% and outside temps were around 55 degrees. My car is bone stock.

Has it overheated before? Seems like an encouraging result, need some sort of basis for comparison though.

Never overheated before but this was my first time at the track. I wish i had baseline but i know for sure the diff is running 50 degrees cooler with the sheild on the streets.
