While we do not have much snow here in North Alabama, we do get cold weather. As such, I need to purchase cold weather tires for my four seater. Are any of you tire savvy and can you please suggest tires for cold weather use?
Thank you,
George

BFGoodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S come in 305/35/20s and are rated pretty high on Tirerack.

I work for a Mclaren dealership and we install PIrelli Sotto Zero's here on the cars for winter driving. Some of my clients that drive their car all winter love them. Just my .02

So with the Pilot Sport 4S is there a certain temperature to not drive the car in?

Just saw in the other thread that they are similar to the sport cup 2 tires. 7 Celsius, 40 farenheit.

Not sure what you see for cold weather there but I have always driven my cars with pre-4s MPSS in between storms, on nice days with temps say 10Âş-40Âş without any issue what so ever. I'm not saying I've tracked or dragged, I am saying on a nice sunny, but cold winter day when the streets are clear, I drive my car for errands and dinner out and such. No slippery driving issues, no cracking, nothing. I can't speak for the 4s (yet) but I have read they are a step up from the last generation MPSS.

In comparison, the Pirelli tires that came on the cars were the worst tire I have ever had, EVER. They sucked for traction on a 90Âş day, and would slip just looking at them on a 40Âş day.

I am a fan of Conti DWS's. Ran them on my SHO and run them on my Mustang now even though it has only seen snow 1x in 4 winters. It still gets REALLY cold here so summer tires year-round are a no-go.

Basing this on my experience with Pilot Super Sports, I would expect the 4S can be driven on in temperatures in the teens and twenties, but you don't want to drive with them on the car when there might be ice on the roads. I used to run Blizzak snow tires on my GT350 in super cold months, but during fall and spring it can get into the 50s during the day but be quite chilly in the early morning hours. I hate to run lower traction tires. I would use the Pilot SS tires as long as I could. So I ran the Pilot SS tires until there was a chance for ice and then I would switch over.

Edit: the 4S construction may be different than the SS - see below.

Great tires. Drove 'em year round in VA - even in some snow - (275/40/19).

This is according to Tire Rack for the PS4S tires...

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

True snow tire Nokian Hakkapelittias period.

Ill be on my 3rd set in about 2 weeks. Each set has lasted me about 2 winters through North Dakota winters.

Blizzaks dont even come close.

As for Alabama honestly a true snow like Nokians or Blizzaks is overkill.

Id think the BFG GForce Comps would be a solid choice.

I cant find these in the GT500 tire size. They get great reviews.

You need a minimum V-rated snow tire if you’re considering that on this car.
I drive my Hellcat Charger year round and it goes from drag radials to snow tires.
I’m currently running a Yokohama w.drive v-rated performance snow and it’s great, I’d highly recommend.
A/s tires to me do nothing well, and I’d also not consider driving this GT500 in snow regularly, but if I’m doing cold weather driving regularly with the chance of getting caught in light snow, I’d still do the performance V-rated snow tire personally.
Good luck.
