Thinking of going from 3:73 to 3:55 in my 16 GT six speed, looking for some feed back from any one who has this combination. I'm under the impressions the 2019s came this way.

What it is you're trying to achieve with your car? If you have a PP car, you'll lose your Torsen LSD. If that doesn't matter to you, you'll get better MPGs, and the car will be a bit slower.

I'm not sure why you're referencing 2019s?

I thought I had read somewhere that the 2019 six speed came with a 3:55 gear set. Also I don't have to give up the Torsen. I guess I was wrong it is the automatic that gets the 3:55, so I will address this question to any year car that has this option.

Folks can help you better with two bits of info answered;

1. Details of you car. Is it a Performance Pack car? What options? Manual? Auto? Putting that info in your sig-line really helps.
2. What are you trying to accomplish with your car?

I have a 15 GT PP MT82 with 3.73 Torsen and I just got a complete 3.55 Torsen rear end to swap in. I had planned on picking up an extra complete 3.73 Torsen rear end and having 3.31 gears installed in it but finding the 3.55 Torsen worked out well for me. I'm looking for longer gearing to be able to get more MPH in each gear and actually be able to get to the 160MPH on the dash. The 3.31s would have gotten me to 160MPH at only 6500RPM comfortably under the 6800RPM rev limiter but with the 3.55s I can get to 160MPH at 6900RPM comfortably under the FRPP PP1 tune's 7100RPM rev limiter.

I'm watching this, as I am considering going from 3.31's to 3.73's in my 16. Engine is stock, just seems like 3.31's are a bit tall and 3.55 might not be a big enough jump to warrant the swap.

That's what I've wondering about too, will 3:73 to 3:55 make that big a difference ! Only modification I have made is an x-pipe and I may do a CAI and tune but that's as far as I will be going. My days of racing on the track or on the street are over, this is a cruiser and a road trip car.

5% difference, hardly noticeable on the street.

If the “6 speed” being referenced by some is the MT82, going from 3.55’s to 3.73’s is negligible and there’s not going to be much a performance gain - not much of a seat-o-the-pants difference.

How’s the car going to be used? Daily highway? Road Race/Auto-X? Drag Race?

Is the car ever going to have forced induction?

It’s not just a matter of throwing a different gear set at it - you have to have a plan and know what you want from the car from an overall functional and performance aspect.

If you’re an MT82, going to stay N/A and already have 3.55’s - jump to 4.09’s. THAT will give you some hustle and you’ll definitely feel the difference. You’ll most likely have shorter shifts and lose top end mph (if strictly drag racing), but there’s always a negative with a gain.

If you’re a 6R80 with 3.55’s, 3.73’s will make a difference - but again more dependent upon if the car will remain N/A or eventually be forced induction. The 3.55 gear set is very optimal for the 6R80 and even the 10R80.

I mean sure you can throw any gear set (or swap entire pumpkins), but what is it you’re looking to gain? Just smoking the tires? Or a timed event win or bestest?

I don’t have it available, but someone should post up the MT82 gearing, as well as the same for the 6R80/10R80 to show the overall gear - and how it would interact with X-rear gears.

I hate doing math in public but that is what I came up with really quick, about a 5% difference between those ratios. There are websites that will show the mph difference at the same rpm also.

Cobra Jet I am the one that started all this and my intentions are to go totally opposite of what you suggested. I have a MT82, staying N/A, and have no intentions of getting involved in any speed contests of any kind. Car is a daily driver with some road trips being planned, I do appreciate your input as it is well thought out.
