Had engine light come on at about 190 miles, Ford service says it needs a new cat, anyone else have this happen?

Yes, mine was just replaced but a 2016 with 15.800 miles. Engine check light came on just before a Watkins Glen track weekend. You can imagine how worried I was. I cleared the code so it couldn't interfere potentially with any other functionalities like going into limp mode or traction control etc... Was fine the whole 2 days on the track, then engine light cam up again driving home. Went into the dealership this week for replacement under warranty.

Interesting.

There was a TSB that came out for the 2018 S550 EB’s where the catalytic converters were to be replaced for those vehicles located at a certain altitude. Not sure why it’s specific like that - but I’ll have to locate it again if anyone is interested.

For those who had the stock cats replaced - do you know if the found problem was related to:

1) catalytic converter honeycomb cracked and loose within the shell

2) catalytic converter failure due to melting of the honeycomb

3) catalytic converter failure due to honeycomb pores being plugged

There is a TSB for the GT350 as well. I had a check engine light too. Dealer replaced them with no issues I think I had around 8000 miles on it..

If you (or anyone else) has the TSB number, please post. I ran my VIN through the Ford Owners site and nothing came up.
Thanks.

Here are catalytic converter related TSB’s:

1) Ford TSB 18-2370 applied to the 2018-2019 S550 EB 2.3 only... it’s a strange TSB in that it has a sea level elevation clause as to reason for cat system replacement.

2) Ford TSB 18-2355 applied to the 2018-2019 EB 2.3 only; if DTC P0420 was present, then instruction was to replace catalytic converter.

3) Ford TSB 19-2201 relates to the 2018-2019 5.0, but it only calls out those with an auto trans...but references DTC P0420 and P0430.

I have not seen any Ford TSB from 2015-2019 related directly to the GT350 or GT350R catalytic converter or emissions system. If someone has it, do post it up.
