Would Ford ever make a convertible GT350?

I had a GT ragtop last month on a vacation....nice and fun to drive. I was thinking, it would have been even nicer to have 350 convertible....would anyone buy one? How about making one yourself or could a shop do it? (NOT Ass Monkeys) I assume its new rear quarter panels, the top and electronics, with trunk lid.....hard part would be the front window and A pillar. Additional bracing under the chassis too. Thoughts? anyhow just a useless Friday morning post.

No they won't, Jamal Hameedi himself at the time said that it defeats the purpose and mission of the GT350 and absolutely would not buy one if one even existed.
Speaking of Jamal Hameedi I was very sorry to see him leave Ford earlier this year after almost 3 decades of being an instrumental figure at Dearborn with respect to Mustang and other performance vehicles like the Raptor.

This guy loved performance vehicles and bare bones HP Mustangs such as the attached 2017 Base R model that he spec'd out for himself back in early 2016 when he had "HR001" built to his color and bare bones liking and was able to drive this car after locating it for a great friend and only had ~4450 miles on it.

Hard to replace someone like him with all of this outstanding knowledge and experience and sure wished that he would be invited back to Ford.

Now that Ford continues to lose/replace people like Jamal and with new individuals now in place never say never on a GT350 or GT500 convertible and if that ever did happen I suggest that it may be a little while down the road.

I was just looking down the list of today's threads and choked on my sandwich, gobsmacked, when I saw this thread title.

I had a dream in the wee hours this morning that my GT350 was a convertible. It had a black top, and the white stripes went over the convertible top as well. I was so disappointed in myself - wtf was I thinking? I mean, I remembered really liking my car, but seriously... What. The. Hell. is this thing?

I woke up incredibly relieved.

PS: Please stay out of my dreams and cast your obviously quite powerful mental abilities elsewhere, life is too short for this kind of distress.

:fistbump: On a more serious note, I agree with the above posts, convertible and GT350 ethos don't mix, though I completely agree it would be a very fun car. I would actually really like a convertible Mustang GT or EcoBoost as a beach car. But only because I already have a GT350.

II would say no to a gt350 vert, but yes to a gt500 vert for sure...
You are making me miss my terminator. Nothing like a top down drive with blower and exhaust noise with no roof to filter it... ah memories.

Bet if Ford made a few they would get snapped up real quick. In fact I think for 1966 they made only six of them. Four are known, one is missing and one got crushed. Sure you are not tracking one, but how many actually get tracked anyhow? Sorry about the dreams, stop eating shrooms or peyote buttons!

It was thought for a long time there were six convertibles made in 1966 but there were only four, the last four 66's made, all are accounted for and survive today. Quite a few more were made in 68 and 69/70.

Sidepipes on a built Fox ragtop even better, I had both SVT and Fox at time. Plus the cold morning condensed smoke from pipes in review mirrors.

People would buy them just because they could.

I doubt Ford would add the complication of a convertible GT350 to a model run of already smallish numbers. I agree that it would compromise the purpose of the GT350. Further I suspect the GT350 line may not continue past 2020 (I know this has been speculated since it was launched). Plus, I would not be surprised if Shelby American has agreement with Ford that they only offer a niche convertible in their GT-H edition.

Agreed with 2 of those 4 GT350 convertibles for 1966 sitting right in your back yard!

Thanks for posting Dave as I viewed John's collection a while back and not only a terrific collection of cars but just a great guy as well!
