Will the digital dash become standard instead of being an option?

Yeah, I wonder. I mean, LCD panels (especially relatively low rez/color/nits) are super cheap, controller can't be much, when you start looking at the cost of two different builds, supply chain, etc. I think it's more of a value for Ford as a high profit option (with the 401A), vs. a value add for the vehicle.

I love mine :)

Side note: I'd like to see Apple build a secondary display option into the CarPlay spec/SDK, especially with so many cars having large dash displays in addition to the primary center stack. Wouldn't need much of a spec, even like a reserved 400x320 or 240x240px area - so then you could have a secondary display option for pushing more app info, even if it was just the primary built-ins, like full song meta-data, or alert notifications for incoming messages.

I know it took manufacturers this long just to make CP/AA semi-standard, but I think there's a lot being left on the table. Er, I guess wireless is next in the queue ...

The next step could be to make it standard in the premium models. I believe that most of the base level buyers are looking for performance vs tech. The “keep it simple” folks probably would prefer the analog gauges. That said, I have it and love it. But I’m a tech guy.

I added it to my 18’ and think it’s fantastic. It should be a stand alone option.

I'm an avid tech person and the digital dash was a deal breaker for me. I just know there's going to be issues with that down the road and I'd prefer to have the analog gauges in my car.

That being said, I see the appeal for those that like it. I'm glad it is optional though as I would have had to add $4k to the price of my car for that package and be paying for something I didn't like.

I stand corrected , not all tech savvy folks are going to like the digital dash. As far as reliability, that’s what the ESP is for.

Hahaha well I do LIKE it and as I said I can certainly understand the appeal. I just have some experience with digital dashes on other cars that didn't go well and wanted to avoid going through that expensive headache again.

You know what’s funny? As much as I love tech, my watches are all mechanical. I do have a Fitbit but would not consider an Apple watch. The funny part is that quartz watches require no servicing, except replacing a $2.00 battery. My better mechanical watches require service every five years or so. At a cost of hundreds.

That is pretty funny. But what can we say? At the end of the day, if we like something enough, we'll pay for it. That's how I wound up with the California Special package. :like:

BTW: I have never met another I.T. guy who likes Apple. So we ALL have that in common. :)

I'm with you, I work in software, but I really love the analog gauges. There is a simple functionality to them that just goes really well with the Mustang.

That's nice.......at least they're doing something to mark 55 years.

I do find it ironic that I was convinced Ford would give us something special for the 55 anniversary...........and they did, but for Europe! This is our Mustang 55 Edition (black wheels/roof/spoiler/stripes/leather & alcantara seats). Its almost a mash up of the Black Accent Package and California Special (neither of which we get in Europe). Can't wait to finally see one at a dealer over here :)

Don't the 18s and 19s say Mustang on it?

The 15-17s say Mustang since 1964?
