Shop called Turbobay. Its good you have the 13-14s. You can have the turbos upgraded by them for a decent price.
I appreciate that. Is it really worth it to upgrade? I’m going to go take a look at their website.

Yes. It would be. The turbos as is are just a bit small for gains in pump gas and have some back pressure issues on the front side. You will need to ensure you make a custom 2 1/2 to 3 inch downpipe the backside and upgrade the turbos for the front. Another thing you should consider is ported turbo exhaust manifolds or the ones from CRP.

With a good e85 tune you will make around 430whp without upgrading anything, but you will experience far lower numbers with 93 pump gas without upgrades. Something around 350whp max. All in all you still would have a great budget kit if you decide to upgrade, to include tuning. Somewhere around 4500 dollars total investment. I decided to go big and opted to have a custom top mounted twin turbo kit built for me that puts out 600whp, but my total costs to get it driving is double that.

So being my first major project, 350 whp was actually my goal number. I definitely appreciate all the info and when (not if) I'm ready for more power I'll upgrade the internals. I will definitely be making a custom downpipe, as you suggested, and am strongly considering porting the manifolds I bought.

Hi everyone!

Brand new to the mustang community as an owner, but I've always had a love for Fords. I always dreamed of owning a Mustang, so when the opportunity presented itself in late 2018 I pulled the trigger.

So after reading the title I'm sure you're asking the question, "Why a twin turbo V6? Why not just buy a GT for the same or more power?" I have 2 answers to that question:
1. I needed a car in a short amount of time when my previous car was totaled (R.I.P. 2015 Focus ST). The insurance company cut me a check just shy of $17k and I happened to find my Mustang online with an asking price of $16k. Talked the previous owner down just a tad and the car was mine.
2. I absolutely love working on cars and have wrenched on or at the very leased changed the oil myself in every vehicle I or my family has owned. I wanted to tackle this project because I don't see many people doing this online.
Late to the party but you also got a cleaner hood, fenders without badges or holes....

When I speak about upgrading i specifically wasn't talking about engine internals, though a good idea with anything above 600 (our engines our very stout and handle 550whp easy). I was talking more about upgrading your stock turbos internals to 58mm and upgrading your turbo exhaust manifolds. The stock eco stuff is super restrictive and dangerous on the pistons.

So unfortunately I’ve run into some issues. Everything is installed, only had 2 small oil leaks and both were easily addressed.

For the bad, I’m using the “initial tune” from MPT Performance, so I know it’s not supposed to be perfect, but I figured it would be drivable. From forum posts I’ve read, it seems like many people get a near perfect tune from the start and only need to iron out small quirks.

At idle and in first gear the car runs pretty well. If you rev it up to 3k quickly and then let off, the revs will drop below 1k and it will sputter for a split second, but then it returns to normal. After 1st gear (2nd and above) the car just does not accelerate smoothly unless I’m absolutely babying the throttle. If I try to accelerate like normal, it is very jerky and feels like it try’s to rev up then down. If I do baby it, I can accelerate smoothly but very very slowly. As in slower 0-60 than my 1999 Ford Ranger.

I guess I’m wondering if anybody has had any experience with any flash tunes like this before and if there is any advice or suggestions anyone has?

I’ve emailed a data log of the first jerky drive to MPT and explained my experience to them as well, so hopefully they get back to me soon.

You're not going to get a perfect tune out of the box for a custom twin turbo kit from anybody. You would want to datalog everything fully then start trying to get on it with future datalogs. First make sure idle is good, then regular driving, then starting WOT runs.

Only issue with needing to datalog carefully is that they're probably backlogged due to Christmas orders.

What he said. And even when you start doing WOT pulls. it'll probably only be to 5 or 6 grand til they get you dialed in.

So, details on the twin turbos.

I purchased a kit from Super Six Motorsports that adapts the turbochargers from the 2011-2014 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost trucks to the 3.7L Cyclone V6. It comes with adapter plates for the manifolds, braided lines for oil, and all fittings required to adapt the turbos to the engine. It also includes an extremely detailed parts list and step-by-step instructions for installation. They also provide resources for tuning and where to purchase parts.

My brother and I will be documenting the process on his YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/hackmandude12 (not a plug, I swear).

What I have so far:
- Twin-turbo adapter kit
- Silicone coupler and clamps for left charge pipe
- Silicone coupler, clamps, and hose joiner for right charge pipe
- Steel piping, couplers, and clamps to assemble intake piping (from intercooler to intake manifold)
- Clamps for air filter

What I still need to purchase (items listed are specifically mentioned by the Super Six kit):
- Left and right F-150 exhaust manifolds, turbos, flanges, and oil supply/drain assembly. I am going with 2013-14 F-150 turbos. They lack the built in blow-off valve that the 2011-12 turbos have, but are more efficient and typically have less miles on them from a wrecker.
- Left and right F-150 charge pipes
- CX Racing IC-0012 intercooler, dual 2.5" inlets, 3" outlet and various nuts, bolts, and spacers to mount intercooler to bumper
- TurboSmart Race Port universal blow off valve with steel mounting flange
- TurboSmart Boost Tee, manual 8-9 PSI. The kit recommends the boost tee for 93 octane tune, or the TurboSmart eBoost Street for 12-14 PSI with an E85 tune. I am opting for 8-9 PSI with 93 octane for the time because I do still plan to use this as a daily driver.
- x2 K&N RX-4040 conical air filters
- Cold air intake assembly: 6' length, 2" diameter double wall flexible hose and re-purposed exhaust hangers to mount air filters
- DeatschWerks 16U-0065-6 65 lb/hr fuel injectors
- VMP tuning fuel pump booster
- Procharger AIFT11-025 MAP sensor and EC005A-009 MAP sensor mod
- Oil catch can
- 12 ft 7/32" vacuum hose
- 4 ft 9/32" vacuum hose
- 2015 Mustang GT oil cooler (Hayden 459)
- NGK LTR71X-11 spark plugs, gapped to 0.03"
- Various gaskets: 3.7L exhaust manifolds, 3.5L exhaust manifolds, turbochargers, exhaust adapters, oil manifolds

As for a timeline, I recently got a significant pay increase at work so with each paycheck I will be buying more parts. The plan is to have all parts ordered and in my possession by August 1st. We will start the installation early August and plan to be finished by mid August. I have reached out to MPT Performance (recommended by Super Six due to experience tuning twin turbo V6 Mustangs) and given them my timeline so that we can work out a day to tune the car. They are located in Florida and I am in Houston, so we have to set something up remotely.

I am EXTREMELY excited to embark on this project and can't wait to post my experiences here. I hope others are interested and maybe this thread can help people who undertake a project like this in the future. Feel free to ask any questions or give any advice!

Hey! Just seeing this. I bought them from Procharger over the phone. Can’t buy them online as they only come as a part of different kits they offer, but they were more than happy to charge me for them individually when I called.

So as of right now the initial tuning issues have been worked out and the car is running and driving AMAZINGLY well. The primary issue now is that I’m making too much boost if I’m not careful. Basically the tuning company doesn’t want to run more than 10 PSI on 93 octane with stock internals and right now I’m peaking at about 14-16 PSI at WOT in 3rd gear despite running off wastegate pressure alone (no boost controller) and setting the wastegates to open as absolutely soon as possible. The next step is to buy some aftermarket TurboSmart wastegate actuators and swap in some softer springs so they open even sooner than the F-150 wastegates.

Very nice! You did delete the stock cats? Turbosmart wastegates, good move. With this kit I 100% recommend u run a water/meth kit. Don't tune for it jist for cooling purposes. This kit is hard on pistons and piston rings.
