I noticed a slight wear spot on the edge of the oil dipstick (see red arrow in attached photo), and a wear streak along the edge to the tip from removing and installing it when checking the oil level. Was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

Apparently the dipstick is rubbing up against something inside the engine ... probably the windage tray (?). Not a big deal, but could be that some slight metal gets rubbed off and goes into the oil.

Anyone check this on your dipstick?

Mine has a noticeable ding on it, not sure if it was there from factory or what though and I think its higher up on mine. Ill have to check again.

I know mine was not there when the car was new. If I clean off the dipstick and insert and remove it, I can see a slight layer of oil on where the wear marks are, so that means it's touching/rubbing on something inside the engine in those areas.

I'm betting this is happening on most people's cars, but wanted to verify if others are seeing the same thing.

What you need is a better internal or cutaway diagram than this to follow the dipstick path...

I thought there were actual 2015 5.0 engine cutaways online from when the 2015 first debuted - maybe track back on older threads on this site to see if those pics were captured in those threads.

I am going to guess that is where the dip stick comes out of the blocks sleeve.

I always put my dipstick back in the same way. Might try reversing it and see if it does it on the other side.

I have noticed its hard to put in with the hash marks facing away from the engine, I now put it in with the hash marks facing the engine always and it seems to go in alot easier. I think I had to kind of force it in a few times when I didnt know this. I think this direction also gives a more accurate reading.

Looks like about the same distance up on the dipstick. Yours has different markings ... mine is a 2015.

LoL ... I was actually thinking the same thing, but I doubt that's where the ticking is coming from since mine doesn't tick.

Any pics avail of where the tube ends within the engine block?

Only asking because looking at the (2) pics of the dipsticks above, it seems the area of concern is located after the dipstick tube ends. Now I could be totally wrong from how those other pics were taken, but I’m trying to compare their pics and the location of concern to your pics of the tube assembly (how much of the stick is showing after the end of the tube).

@fmc_smt ... thanks for the photo.

The wear spot on the dipstick looks to be closer to the end of the dipstick than where the tube stops. I'm thinking the wear spot is from the dipstick rubbing/rattling on something below the end of the tube ... like on the windage tray maybe.

If your car has the 'TICK' it'd be interesting to pull the dipstick back about 6-8" when it's ticking and see if it quit....Hmmm
