Back seat - useful or useless?

Completly and utterly useless, too small for adults, children or really even baby seats. Useless, really even to put things in, since they fly to the other side when the car is taken around a corner quickly.....use a net in the trunk. My dog is 120 lbs and it’s too small for her.
Iirc reading an article that ford put the back seat in for insurance and sales purposes.
Hell Im 6’4” and there is no way I can fold up myself to fit back there, let alone sit comfortably, ain’t happening, my wife at 5’9” can’t use it either. So I’ll be taking the back seat out, fabricating a delete and sourcing a roll bar and audio set up to go back there

Take the seat bottom out and but in a LL Bean Dog Nest.

This thread is hilarious - talk about extremes. You either need to be an amputee with no head or they are fine. It does depend on how big the driver is but believe me as long as you are less than 5' 7" or thereabouts then the rear seats are fine. I'm 6'0" and my 5'6" wife can sit comfortably behind me so it really isn't that bad. Certainly child seats fit fine with Isofix fittings and this thread shows this sort of thing in use. They are heavily sculptured seats as well so good at holding items in place.

It's not a true 4 seater, but certainly more than a 2+2. The convertible is better because of better headroom.

I love the back seats...I’ve taken many, MANY, long road trips with the fam in the Mustang due so. The huge rear-facing baby seat was a bit of a struggle, but the forward-facing boosters are too easy with my 3 and 5 year olds back there.

I’ve also had my Mom and Aunt (5’5” each) in the back for a long ride to the airport. No issues.

Bottom line is that I’m glad I have the rear seats. I just wouldn’t sit there myself (6’1” 205lbs).

I too use my back seats for my kiddos. My 4 yr old behind me (driver) and my 9 yr old behind the passenger seat. My 4 yr old sits Indian style, but they both think it’s fun to ride in Daddy’s mustang.. For now anyway.

It sucked for me. I could’ve steered with my nipples if I wanted to.

The rear seats are quite comfortable once you're in them, BUT they'd be so much more useful if Ford had made the front seat auto slide forward when the seat back flips forward.

The seat already has an electric for and aft mechanism, how hard would it have been?

Mine is an export '15, have later ones got this feature?

I've sworn to not impose back-seat riding on anyone I like, but when it's inevitable, a Mustanger gots to do what a Mustanger gots to do.

Years ago (read MGTD-era) I learned that a large percentage of long-distance riding or driving seat comfort depended on the portion of your body weight you could conveniently transfer to the backs of your legs. Sitting with knees drawn up concentrates pressure on tailbones and associated parts of hips. Being able to spread that pressure over a much wider area reduces the unpleasant aspects of the experience.

Almost none of my early cars had adjustable seat angles, and I found it worthwhile to raise the front of the seats by inserting some height under the front, often by adding a stack of washers or a wood block on a longer mounting bolt. In the case of the MGTD, I just got a nice wedge-shaped cushion that fit the seat and my seat, with a thicker edge under the knee end. On an MGB I bolted a length of u-shaped half-inch steel material between seat-bottom rails, and used it to secure a wood block under the knee-end of the seat; distributed the weight and provided a little anti-submarine function in a car with racing shoulder harness.

I've not done anything about it yet, but I can envision a worthwhile thoughtfully-designed cushion for backseat passengers in Mustangs. Entrepreneurs take note. American Muscle, are you listening?

Yes. My gf at 5’2” and her son at about 5’7”. But I wouldn’t have an adult ride back there for very long. They’re literally sitting right under the glass. I tell them “don’t look up”.

5"2" is about the limit for short rides (my wife). For children up to 5th grade the rear seats actually work really well - but once they get long and lanky it's not so good. The boy is 5'11 now so the back seat is no longer an option.

Better for storage really, but you can use them in a pinch. My GF is 5'2". I think 5'2" is around the comfy height limit. If she has her hair in a high bun, it hits the glass. If not, she can manage. But she did sit behind the passenger seat so they can scoot forward. My seat is pushed back a bit to drive comfortably. Once my 6'2" friend rode in the back so his gf could enjoy the passenger seat while hauling ass. He looked a bit funny back there. Kind of like a hockey stick. Actually my co worker is about 5'9" and he rode back there for a 2 hr each way work trip since he didn't want to drive. He also survived, but I don't know how, lol.

I tried after reading the forum to ride in back seat. Im 5'7 215 pounds with a 32 inch waist. Im am currently sending this from the hospital bed.
