Hey all,

There have been several discussions about ring and pinion options for 2015+ Mustang. As many of you know the MT82-D4 (2018+) gearbox has even longer gears than the prior revision in 2015-2017s. Currently the only ring and pinion options available are 4.09 and 4.56. Many of us feel 4.30 would be the best option, especially for the newer MT82-D4. 4.30 ring and pinions were offered for the last generation of Mustang, but are not currently available for 2015+. I have spent a lot of time communicating with Gus at Yukon Gear, who has recognized the demand for 4.30 ring and pinions. Yukon Gear would need about 67 of us to preorder the new 4.30 ring and pinions in order to tool up and begin production. I am assuming price would be the same as other products from Yukon Gear at just under $300 a set.

I can keep a running list going until we reach 67, then get in touch with Gus and see how he wants to proceed.

I thought bigger than 4.09 wouldn't fit in the stock diff housing?

Just an FYI:

Yukon Gear offers great gear kits and their products are of high quality. They have been an excellent source of rear gear kits and parts since the original “5.0” movement of the 90’s.

The rear gear set I installed in my 94 Cobra is one of their 3.73 sets - which that set now has over 60k on it. My prior 96 Cobra from years ago, I also had a set of their 4.30’s installed in it. Never an issue with their gears after install; their pricing is fair and within that of any competitive suppliers and their Customer Service is excellent.

If going 4.30’s - “Don’t fear the gear!” :)

Absolutely Lower gears than 4.09 will fit in the 'Super 8.8' rear, on 2015-up Mustangs
I'm running a 4.88 Yukon gear in my 2016.
(The pinion gear on the 4.88 is pretty small in diameter, not sure if they can fit a lower ratio R&P than the 4.88)

I have built 4.11, 4.56. and 4.88 for this rear.

Currently available gears:
Ford, (Ford Performance) 4.09 (Incidentally, these are made by US Gear)
US Gear: 4.11
Yukon: 4.11, 4.56, 4.88

The 4.30 ratio would be a nice option. Not sure why no one is manufacturing it right now

I would be up for it but won't have my car until Q2 2020 so if this is still trying to get numbers I'll add my name at that time. Otherwise, I will deal with 4.09s which seem decent when looking at the mph differences above.

This R&P is still plenty strong? As you go from 3.73 to 4.30 to 4.56 and so on the teeth on the ring gear get smaller since you have more of them to get the ratio. Smaller teeth are generally weaker since they don't have as big a base. Might be absolutely fine, just wondering.

Has anyone figured out how to program forscan to accept a 4.3 in a 20+ revmatch car?
