I certainly agree with you in terms of ultimate performance. ZR1 is going to have more than an edge. But for 0-60 to be on par with C7 ZR1 is huge. Quarter mile should be edge to ZR1, but I would expect that the C8 Z06 will exceed the C7 ZR1, just as C7 Z06 outperforms Z6 ZR1. That’s why I’m gonna wait for the C8 Z06. I can’t even get full use of C7 Z06 capability on a track, so for track purposes, a base + Z51 would probably be fine for me, but I’m still gonna hold out for the C8 Z06.
wise decision. Earn interest while waiting to find the best deal on that ass kicker. Good choice. I'm doing the same. It will be fast as hell and less wheel spin on the street = more kills. It's a no brainer if you ask me but hey, we all have different tastes. Wish Ford offered something similar, but they don't

Officially out on the GT500. 2 years too late to the party and too f'n heavy. At least they came about 40hp away from my HP hopes.

While im sure the GT500 will be able to be faster on a long stretch of road using its brute power with the release of C8 last night, im looking to put down deposit at local dealer for Z51 package with 2lt trim. So my aspirations for getting a GT500 have been extinguished for now. Things like dry sump, mid engine, lighter weight all new chassis, more interior options, 8 speed dct, and just sick looks alone push me to that decision. Not to mention the what seems like crazy affordability for what it is. So for those reasons i am out in Shark tank manner lol.

crazy. 48 hours ago, people complaining about gt500 because they dont know enough details, weight, 1/4 mile etc. and today, they already "jumped ship" to a car thats BASE model is already inferior in performance, less HP, no known 1/4 mile, becuase it starts under 60; and no price or ETA for a comparable higher model.

the world we live in make me laugh if it wasnt so sad

These people had no real intention of actually buying. They are just using this as justification to hate on the GT500.

re: bold, I don't think it does, it's just weight (and weight transfer) + gearing for a quick 0-60 sprint, but in the 1/4 I'm sure the ZR1 will be quicker, and substantially faster MPH (and from any kind of roll up to triple digits, I expect the ZR1 would put bus lengths on a base C8). I guess the track comparisons will be coming in several months, but I'd still expect the ZR1 to be notably quicker on a large[r] track.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's pretty spectacular, love the weight, dry sump, the tech, use of an 8-speed DCT, etc.
I’m really disappointed that GM gave a dry weight . Guess everyone is playing the Porsche / Ferrari weight game now lol. Add 150-200 pounds that’s what it will actually weight . Amazing how many people have been saying it weighs 33xx today lol. Otherwise the C8 will be a solid performance value , I agree no way will it touch the ZR-1 in any performance category other than 0-60.

I think you'll be surprised just how well the base c8 will perform compared to the gt500. Why are you surprised that people want to spend their disposable income on a light weight, mid engine sports car with a removable roof, instead of a 4100 pound mustang?

I was considering upgrading to a GT500 in a couple of years; picking up a used one hopefully for a good deal. But man, after the C8 reveal the GT500 option is pretty much off the table. I realize the GT500 will be faster in the 1/4 mile, but everything else about the C8 is superior, including the price. I'm also hopeful that the C8 will drive the price of a used C7 Z06 down significantly, so that's possibly an option on the table for me in a couple of years, too. As great as the C8 is so far, I still love the C7 Z06 as well.

I love the GT500, but for the price, the C8 is a better deal. Unless you need a backseat, I don't see a reason for buying a GT500 over a C8 Z51, esp. once the C8 Z06 comes out at a similar price to a CFTP GT500 and will for sure outperform the GT500 in every category. A Z51 C8 with a few optional upgrades will still be less than a base GT500. I think the C8 will hurt the dealerships and ability to tack on ADMs. I don't think it'll hurt Ford because Ford will still sell all the GT500s it makes.

100% out now. C8 is a far better car for with a much cheaper price tag. Ford really screwed up this GT500 car, Shouldve been out for the 2018 MY. Its going to be hard justifying a $80-$100k GT500 when the base C8 has a DCT, 2.9 0-60, 500hp, 3300 lb mid engine car for under $60k.

I’m all in on a GT500. Haven’t ordered one, but I will once I can get close to MSRP. I respect the new Corvette, but at the end of the day I’m a Ford guy and have always wanted a Shelby. The GT500 just looks better in my opinion too

People, quit saying the base C8 will go 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Also, quit saying the C8 will go 0-60 in under 3 seconds for under $60k. They clearly said in the reveal that the Z51 package goes 0-60 in under 3 seconds. That's likely a $5-6k option, based on the C7 pricing. So, the base engine Z51 C8 will go 0-60 in slightly under 3 seconds for $65-66k. That said, the base that costs ~$59,995 (still not sure if that includes destination) will likely do 0-60 in low 3s. Still, it's a bargin and an awesome car.

I honestly don’t really care about any numbers anyone is spouting about either car. Literally no one has published any driving reviews or tests for either. Both are going to be fast, fun cars and if one is slightly quicker, I could give two shits. And I can guarantee the C8 will have an ADM at the beginning too with all the press it’s getting and the backlog of hype for the mid-engine.

C8 seems to be a great car. I have two corvettes currently and am not excited about the C8 all that much. It is gonna be like every corvette for the past few decades and be everywhere. The GT500 is gonna be a lot more rare. GT500 is going to hold value better than the mass produced corvette I believe. When the ZR1 or equivalent comes out maybe not. Yes it is mid engine but that's no longer going to be a rare sight like it has been. It's going to perform great but at the end of the day its still a corvette. The GT500 is still a mustang but gonna be made in lesser quantities and in my opinion looks better. I do not like the rear end of the corvette.
