Come on guys our Mustangs were never designed to be a light car. I saw a thread on this forum where a guy was able remove over 550lbs of weight from his s-550 and it made a big difference. His car is n/a stick car. Needless to say dropped alot of cash doing it..my point is, it costs less to add power (ie: boost) to handle the weight better then to reduce weight to improve your car’s performance..

More power only helps straight line performance, but reducing weight helps every aspect of performance. We've got to work with what Ford give us, so just knowing what various cars weigh helps show what the baseline looks like.

Ford's current Mustang Gt4 race car weighs 3520lbs. This is a diehard road course racecar that has been dominating imsa series racing since its inception. Your older z06 corvettes can be dialed in at just over 3000 if you really want a light road course car...100 pounds off the current weight will help but it's a minimal impact. Have you seen the weight of the 2020 gt-500 Track pack car? it weighs as much as a hellcat but will destroy a gt-350r on a road course...so power plus weight plus suspension can be very effective on a road course as well...

Where does it say it weighs as much as a hellcat?

You don’t know that.

I had been thinking about this subject lately before I came across the forum. I plan on shedding a little extra weight but not getting to crazy about it.
I did notice the 2018 engine cover weighed almost 5 pounds. I deleted the back seat too and recall it being almost 40 with all the extra brackets and parts.

I stopped on a nearby scale: 4020 lb, take off about 160 for me and it's still not a light car.
Took mine to a nearby Cat scale & weighed her after topping off the tank:

For what it's worth, she's an EBPP, premium, wheels/tires are swapped out but only saved a couple pounds per corner so not a big deal. I'm 215#, so that puts old girl at 3,725 lb. Ouch.
