It is not recommended to use a lug nut to pull on the threads of the new stud to install them, lug nuts are a far weaker metal than the stud and that is a good thing to protect the stud but they also have far fewer threads than a proper install tool has. The install tools are a harder material similar in strength to the stud itself and have a lot more threads to spread the force needed to seat the stud into the hub. They do not cost much more and are a better tool for the job.
