How's it going Fellow forum members?

Trying to see what are you guys doing to cool these cars better. I have a 16 Vortech supercharged, V7jtb built motor. With this Miami heat I'm seeing 215-225 cylinder head temp (on E85). Just wondering what you guys are doing as far as cooling. Trying to see If I can get the temps down to at least low 190's or even high 180's.

Thank you in advance

I have a procharged non PP car, auto, lund tuned with a Reische Tstat. I hardly see 205 CHT unless Im driving a long time in traffic. normally 195-200. Coolant temps about 185, low to mid 190s if not moving.

I have a 170* t-stat, mesh grill, tune to change your fan settings (I know Lund does something to keep the fans running), and a slightly water heavy mix in the coolant reservoir of 60% water, 40% coolant (and make sure it's topped off). Before I did all of these things, I had seen an all time high CHTs of ~250 and IATs of 180 sitting in a garage on a 100* day. I found out later one of my fans wasn't working, which I believe led to some evaporation of my water:coolant mix, which meant I was not circulating enough water, meaning the car got even hotter in an endless overheating cycle. Once I got the fuse fixed for the fans, and did all those things I mentioned, my temps have never been better.

I've since added a Paxton, but I still have never seen my chts above 209 since those fixes and my iats are consistently 3* above ambient when cruising.

Even after beating the car and making a few consecutive pulls, I'll only see IATs go up by like 10* from the blower heat. CHTs pretty much won't go past 205-207, no matter what I try (they usually hover in the 195-199 range). The temps of course get the hottest sitting in traffic when it's over 100* outside, but even then the hottest IATs I've seen are about 115-120*.

Keep in mind, this also includes Texas summer heat, where it can often get above 100* outside.

Procharged with Reische 170 and lund commanding the fans. Normal head temp is 190, 203ish sitting in 90°+ heat, and heavy humidity.

Reische thermostat is great for forced induction. It brought my CHT's down 10 degrees or so.

However, CHT of 215-225 is really not a big deal. I see something in that range if I'm stuck in hot traffic for too long even with the Reische and an adjusted tune. Keep in mind that these are cylinder head temps, and engine coolant temp is roughly 10 degrees cooler on average. So, your CHT of 215-225 is really ECT of 205-215. On a stock tune, the ECU and fans are set to maintain an ECT of 212, so that temp range seems totally normal.

Before my Reische, I was seeing hot traffic temps around 235.

Same here. I routinely see CHT's of 215-219 and ECT's of 205-210. What's odd is that my car actually runs the hottest on the freeway at 75mph. I've been trying to burp the cooling system to see if that helps, but so far no change. Anyone have any suggestions on how to burp these cars successfully?

Resche 170* t-stat
70/30 coolant mix(70% water)
Fans set to go 100% at 190*F

I'm from Texas where our summers hit 100+ and head temps usually stay around 190-195* with the above set up

Get a thermostat / tune adjusted for it. I’m in the panhandle and IAT never goes above 5 degrees above ambient during casual driving.

Mine ran hot if I got stuck in traffic, up towards 230, even with 170 t-stat.

Added a Watson Racing alloy radiator, now the temps stay under 210.

Remove the rear bay plastic coping and rubber lip across underside of hood.
This made a huge difference on my Whippled 15.
Also ran Reische 170.
I just pulled the rubber seal off but which part of the coping should I look at? Just curious.

*edit, remove rubber caps covering wiper arm retainer nut.
loosen wiper blade nuts and bring them to top of thread to protect threads so you can tap with plastic mallet or piece of 2x4 etc.
Lift up on wiper arm and tap on nut/shaft to loosen the arm.
Pull the arms.
Remove the entire plastic coping whole thing.
Time = 1 beer first time.

You might need a plastic body pin puller if you dont already have, had great luck with Amazon and Harbor freight plastic and metal ones. Holler if you need examples.
