Apparently there are 2 type of clips holding the front fender liner in place. Same OD but different clipping length (one designed to hold thicker things or things that do not have to be tight together Pictures:

Of courseI am only noticing this when I am putting things together. Does anybody know where (which positions on the fender liner) the longer ones go (there are only 2 or 3 of them the rest are the shorter kind).

Thanks!

The two larger/longer ones go right behind the front wheel at the bottom where a rockguard/mudflap would go

Thanks! Yes, I know about those 2 bigger ones there. Those 2 are longer and have a bigger OD. as well.

These on the other hand have the same OD as the other ones but are a bit longer. I wonder if this is random or there is a logic behind it.

I think I kind of semi figured it out. There are a couple of places where the clips need to grab on to thicker material. They are the frame rail location and the lower rear corner one that is behind the strut. Now if anybody can explain why Ford had 3 of these longer ones on the driver side and 2 on the passenger side is beyond me. The shorter clips will pretty much work anywhere well except the frame rail location.

I figured this out when i ripped my front end apart the second time. There's actually 3 sizes, but they only fit well where they're supposed to go. When in doubt, the parts cataloging is a helpful resource.

If you count those 2 huge ones at the back then you are absolutely right. There are 3 types.

The smaller ones have 2 lengths.

I have had my front fender liners out twice now and it doesn't seem to matter where I put them. It all goes back together just fine.
