Reminds me of an old joke:

Do you know why men get drooling excited when around a woman dressed up in all leather? Because she smells like a new Mustang!

Usually the smell is offgassing of the plastics, adhesives, textiles and so forth.
This.

They say it's not great for your health. Meh. Mine still smells new after ~7500 miles and several years, but it lives in a climate controlled building most of the time.

Which reminds me, I need to rub down the seats again one of these days with Griot's Leather Care, which smells fantastic.

14K on mine bought in Feb of 2018, and I've still got the new smell. I don't drive it M-F, it doesn't see rain, I don't eat or drink in it, and I always keep it clean. I think that's what helps.

I kinda screwed myself out of the new car smell when when I put Lexol on the seats. My car now sits un-driven for 2 weeks at a time, and the Lexol smell is strong when you open the door. Lexol doesn't smell nearly as good as NEW.

I factory ordered mine and kept ALL the plastic on the inside for about 1 month or so (seats, sun visors, steering wheel, carpets, etc.). I keep the windows rolled up and usually drive with recirc. I've had the car for a little over 2 months and it was built exactly 3 months ago. When I walk in the garage I smell new car odor. I'm kinda OCD, but I like to preserve that scent as long as possible.

Just curious, how many miles has your new car smell lasted? I'm at 2200 miles now and it's fading. I really only get a good whiff of it every few days when I think it's gone.
Mine is still there at 5597 miles.

I have 56k miles and when the car is closed up for a day or two in the hot sun it still smells new when I get in. I think it's mostly the leather smell though.

Was curious. I DD mine but it's garaged nightly and usually not driven too much on the weekends. My wife tries to get as much pet and human hair as she can when she rides in it so we usually take her car on the weekends. She also treats her car like a garbage can so my car is one of my very few sanctuaries. Cloth seats and windows always up.

About 5000 miles. The doors are so long that it’s really hard to keep the scent for very long. But a full interior detail and I usually can get close to recapturing the magic.
