Absolutely love that color/stripe combination and a Base R model to boot.

Ford kind of went crazy with the assembly of 95 pre-production GT350/R's for the 2016MY as those numbers exceed any other model year by a great deal.

There were zero pre-production units built for the 2015MY but Ford did build 21 pre-production units for the 2017MY and another 21 pre-production units for the 2018MY.

I am sure that you are aware of these figures but if not Ford built 526 R's in 2016 with 64 of those cars being Base R's therefore your Base R is 1 of 64 cars.

Cool car for sure!

You mean in post 1? The Race Red in that post is HR319 located in FTW TX. It is not a base. I have JR369 which is Shadow Black stripe delete and not a base either.

You should edit the thread title to "base R thread" or something. You have been hijacked! However it is still a useful thread that hasn't been done before.

Thanks for the stats! Not to beat a dead horse here but my car (for whatever reason) has a VIN # chassis plate (G0089) like the 2015MY cars do as opposed to the regular number (GR015). Inquires into FP yielded nothing except "Hmmm, that's interesting. We'll get back to you..." Even more interesting/confusing is that I've come across GR014 and GR016 and their chassis plates are correct. The question I want answered most: "Is my car the only 2016 car with a VIN # chassis plate?"

they screwed up on the line and made the wrong chasis plate. I would insist on a new (correct plate). They can be made. Dean Martin had a few made for one of his builds.

To be sure, whats your VIN? 1FATP is R model for your year

I may request the plate but don't think I'd ever replace the original. Thanks for your insight. And sorry OP for hijacking your thread!

Oh yes, I agree. That does make your car special with a story. The R is in the VIN. If your VIN checks out, get the new chassis plate

As for the hijack, I don't think he'll mind. The purpose of the thread was over when he found the guy he was looking for.

The question I want answered most: "Is my car the only 2016 car with a VIN # chassis plate?"

IMO there are a number of issues to keep in mind here.

I would suggest that there was more than one person who typed and issued the chassis plates therefore one person may have been briefed as to how the 2016MY chassis plates would read and another may not have or the one person just had a lapse of focus.

I have had conversations with individuals at FP a few years ago whereby FP did not have a clear understanding of which way they wanted to go with chassis number designations for the 2016MY with those discussions taking place as late as the end of July 2015.

Your car was assembled just some 10 days after the 2015 cars (my car completed assembly on July 24th) therefore I would suggest there was still lots up in the air with respect to chassis number plate designations for 2016 around that time?

The 2015 chassis plate designations for the 37 R models that were assembled did not have an "R" designated on the chassis plate and as well the last 2 or 3 numbers of the VIN would become the chassis number for those same cars.

With your cars chassis number not showing an "R" as was the case with the 2015 cars along with your chassis number being the same number as the last 2 numbers from your VIN I would suggest that this is a one off scenario with whoever producing the chassis plate for your car namely "G0089" was not up to speed or just had a bad day at the office.

In any case do not change out the chassis plate "G0089" on your car as that would be a huge mistake as that was the way it came from the FRAP.

Your unique chassis number creates a great deal of interest and speculation as to what happened at the FRAP sometime in July 2015 and would suggest this is a 1 of 1 situation for a 2016 R model subject to any 2016 pre-production R models coming out of the woodwork from Ford.

BTW, I have seen and have pictures of "PP001" which is a SB 2016 GT350R that still resides with FP and has a VIN showing "1FATP8JZ1G5200165".

The "200000" series of VIN's was set aside for Pre-Production cars therefore suggest that you might be safe as your car was a regular production GT350R and not a PP car.

^^^^^ I agree with all of that. Don't swap out anything. But part of the story is your cars transition and if you could get a new chassis plate with all the documentation, it would certainly mean something if the mistake ever came into question.

Either way, you are in a good position to be in.

Really appreciate the insight, information and suggestions. I will keep trying to get a statement from FP as to what their take is on the car and update the forum accordingly.

i gotta say, that is the baddest, meanest, most drop dead gorgeous R color combo i have ever seen...
I certainly have to agree with you!!:like::like:

Ordered this car and it ended up as a 1 of 1 Base R model in that color/stripe combination that was built for the Great White North and now it sits not far from me in Phoenix.

Cool color/stripe combination that you have for sure and certainly miss my old car but close enough to go see it from time to time.

:)
