I read in the manual Ford recommends changing out the oil before racing ( to a 5-30 I think). Question; by racing do they mean 1/4 drag? Or around a twisty track? Can you re-use the original oil, if I have 3000 miles on speedometer?

If you drain the oil, under no reason should you put it back in.

That said, with only 3k on the clock, no you don't need to change your oil. 5w30 is for extended track use.

I don’t think 5 30 is a bad choice for all occasions
I won’t use 5 20 but I don’t live in the northern exposure

Use whatever you want. The point was that the owners manuals recommends it for extended use, not the drag stripand he is fine running 5w20
