It's really just the stock Pirelli's and a few budget summer tires that suffer in the cold. Michelin's Super Sport and Conti's DW and SportContact 5 offer superior performance than the Pirellis and will work very well in cold temps. I am on winter #3 with my Conti DW's and they are great. Michelin's SS were my first choice however.
+1 on the Michelin SS. I currently have them on my '06 S/C GTO (500/450) and I'm in the Northeast. If its below 40 degrees, just let them warm up a bit and just be a little gentle on the throttle. I would think it would be fine down in Texas for a month (or two...lol).

265/40/20 = 27.3 Inches
275/35/20 = 27.6 inches
275/40/20 = 28.7 inches

You should go 275/35/20 for a .3 inch difference instead of the 275/40/20 with a 1.4 inch difference.
I can't make your math work on the 265s.

The formula is generally
Section width * aspect ratio = sidewall height
Sidewall height * 2 = total sidewall (above and below the wheel)
Total sidewall / 25.4 = total sidewall converted to inches
Total Sidewall in inches + wheel diameter = overall height (not allowing for flattening of contact patch)

So, for the 265/40s, I come up with
265 * .40 = 106mm
106 * 2 = 212mm
212 / 25.4 = 8.346"
8.436 + 20 = 28.436"

For the 275/35:
275 * .35 = 96.25mm
96.25 * 2 = 192.5mm
192.5 / 25.4 = 7.578"
7.578 + 20 = 27.578

And for the 275/40:
275 * .40 = 110mm
110 * 2 = 220mm
220 / 25.4 = 8.661"
8.661 + 20 = 28.661"

So, that comes out to an overall height of

28.436 for the 265/40/20
27.578 for the 275/35/20
28.661 for the 275/40/20

So the 275/35 would be about .85" shorter than stock, and the 275/40 would be about .25" taller. This makes more sense to me, because the 10mm difference in section width would amount to a 4mm difference in sidewall. Double that, and you have 8mm, which is just a little over 1/4 of an inch (25.4m)

Not trying to nit-pick, I am just not understanding where your numbers come from.

The factory 20s come with 265/35R tires, so 27.3" is correct for the stock diameter.

Great post, looking to replace my 265/35-20 pzeros with EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 - SIZE: 275/35ZR20, $218 is a great price. Difference in size .28inches this equates to .14 inches closer to the wheel well.

Digging this thread up from the grave for a question. Currently running the OEM foundry 20 inch wheels with Michelin PS4S 265/35/20’s all the way around.

I just bought a TT system which is getting put on the car next month. Didn’t budget for the wheels I want (VS forged), so in the short term I’m looking for the best possible rear tire setup with the OEM 20’s.

So far my research has led me to run either the NT555R’s or MT Street SS for the rear.

My question is: would it be fine to run 275/40/20 in the rear and keep the 265/35/20 PS4 up front? (these are the only available sizes that would fit these wheels I believe)

Thanks!
