Has anyone read this?

REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM

In the affected vehicles, the engine is equipped with an oil filter assembly (Motorcraft part number FL2069-ST) engineered to be tightened to 16-18 lb.-ft. (22-24 Nm). If not torqued to the proper specification, over time, the oil filter assembly may loosen and result in an engine oil leak.

In addition, you can drive high performance vehicles in such a way that may lead to higher oil consumption (this includes extended time at high engine speeds, high loads, engine braking, hard cornering maneuvers and track use). Under these conditions, oil consumption of approximately 1 quart per 500 miles (1 liter per 800 km) is possible. As a result, you need to check the engine oil level at every refueling and adjust to maintain proper levels to avoid engine damage.

Ford is saying if the techs don't torque the build year 15-2016 that engine oil leak may occur. Additionally, oil consumption is normal for high performance vehicles like the GT350.

This worries me a bit though regarding the oil filter assembly... how am I supposed to trust that their torquing it down to the proper specs. Not to open up wounds but I was just researching some history about warranty parts that were applied to my 350 and eyes started to wonder.

Those of us with the 2015-2016 cars have long grown used to the oil consumption warnings and torque specs for the filter.

You avoid worrying about your filter coming loose by two ways; change/torque it yourself, and this...

Yes, it’s overkill and not necessary, but hey, we’re all a bunch of dorks in one way or another, right?!?!

Simple insurance to keep the oil filter from backing off is a worm gear clamp snugged around the filter and the screw head resting against the filter housing. While in place the filter can’t back off since the screw head will resist rotation.

I torque my filter properly but also use the worm gear clamp as extra insurance since my car is predominantly a track toy.

Do it yourself and mark the filter at the 6 o'clock position with a Sharpie. I peer through the driver's front wheel now and then to see that it has not moved.

After seeing the video of The YouTube dude having his oil filter unscrew enough for the gasket to pop out of place and caused an engine fire and destroy the car I think I will use both marking oil filter in the worm gear clamp resting against the filter housing! Thanks gentlemen

Has anyone read this? Probably all who got the package and then some.

“Under these conditions, oil consumption of approximately 1 quart per 500 miles (1 liter per 800 km) is possible. As a result, you need to check the engine oil level at every refueling and adjust to maintain proper levels to avoid engine damage.” First appeared in the 2017 Supplement”

This worries me a bit though regarding the oil filter assembly... how am I supposed to trust that their torquing it down to the proper specs. Most don’t. The rest shouldn’t .

Not to open up wounds but I was just researching some history about warranty parts that were applied to my 350 and eyes started to wonder. Good for you! Better now than never. I wouldn’t worry about what you find about the car’s history at this point.

Bottomline. Do your own oil changes and use a torque wrench. I did mine to 18#. Once my Quick Jack comes in I'll be checking that it is still to spec. One option for the older filter is to use hose clamps which when secured properly will prevent the filter from walking itself off.
