hydroplaned and hit the median. The car was purchased a month ago for 20k. A 2018 mustang ecoboost with 37k miles. Given the photos, do you guys think the damage will cost up to $20k? The damage is only on the front end.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I'm not an insurance company adjuster, but perhaps there's one on here... or you could just ask yours.

Lol it's totalled. Headlights alone are 3k so that's more than 10% of the value.

For your sake I hope it's totalled. Also, are you okay? Looks like a mean hit. Also did the airbags deploy?

Hope you're alright.

I'm alright minus the sulfur burns on my arms. Am I wrong to think the car being totaled is a worst case scenario? I'm under the assumption that if the insurance were to give me the check (lets assume 17-18k) I would have to pay up an additional $2-4k just to be back at scare one; compared to paying only the $1,000 for a deductible. Assuming I want to walk away from all of this with the same kind of car.

Someone will fix that car, but it isn’t likely to be you.

When a car is totaled it isn’t that the damages have to equal the value of the car, the damages have to make up a certain percentage of the cars value. A good starting point would be 75%.

To total out any car, the damages have to exceed 72-75% of the vehicle’s ACV (referred to as actual cash value and it can also mean actual crash value for salvage). The percentage range to total varies between States and Insurance Companies.

If you paid $20k for that EB, from the pics and going through a Professional Body Shop or Ford Repair Facility, there’s close to $10k in damage, you’re already at the 50% mark of your purchase price - not knowing what current ACV is on that car. If there is underlying damage (frame, etc) that we can’t see, that can easily add another 20-25% in repair cost which could total it.

Also to note, when a car is being tallied up for a claim, the Adjuster refers to a Red Book and Black Book (NOT Blue book or Edmunds etc). These books have actual cash values and salvage values and are not available to the public. Lending Institutions, Body Shops, Auction Houses and Salvage facilities have access to them.

I always recommend to folks if buying a brand new car, get GAP Insurance if the car is financed... it will save your ass in the event of a total loss claim.

Sorry to hear the Mustang is likely to be totaled.

Can you explain the circumstances of the hydroplaning to the accident? What tire threads remaining, how deep was water and how much rain, speed, etc? The reason for this question is that I am not impressed with OEM tires that come with Ecoboost.

Insurance CO's have a total loss to value/repair ratio which is different in every state. Only your INS co will know.

Yeah, that thing is totaled. Headlights are expensive, airbags are expensive, not too mention all the damage to the body panels, and under the hood.

It’s totaled. Need front sheet metal, core support, lamps, bags and appears it may need a lower rail on right side., If it does engine has typically be pulled for install. That’s just after a 10 second review of your photo.

Even if they could repair it to a state that is called "satisfactory " among body shops
it will never ride right again,it will always rattle and be a shit show....
