I've washed the car a few times, and am concerned about the amount of water that gets into the engine compartment through the heat extractor. Do you cover the extractor in some way when washing the vehicle?

Nope. No need to cover it. After washing the car, I always open the hood and wipe everything in the engine bay down so the little bit of water that gets in there is the perfect amount needed to keep everything nice and clean. Even if you don't wipe it down, it's not going to hurt anything at all. I even spray directly into that vent while rinsing off the hood. Nothing to worry about.

I used the backing sheet off of an Xpel sheet to form a plastic trough that fits under the vent/deflector. It's stuck with dabs of double sided tape to the back side and sides, but droop down slightly towards the front side and is left open. It dumps out on the forward side of the radiator which I usually just mop up on top after washing. Keeps rain water off too. I probably could have made it a bit longer and got it further up front past the radiator but it's good as is. I don't track the car so not worried about a bit of venting loss.

If people are concerned about the amount of water that goes into the heat extractor, they'd shit a brick if they realized how much water gets up into the engine bay just by driving in the rain............

I'm not nearly as concerned about what drips on the engine as what runs down the back side of the insulator when I open the hood. I should cover them every time I wash it.

It's not stated in the manual that the engine bay cannot get wet. Your good.

pertaining to the engine bay the only thing it says in the supplement is to be careful with the open element filter.

Yeah the filter element is my main concern. Although I suppose that when the hood is closed then the compartment is sealed off.

I'll admit I do it. Racer's tape, takes about 30 seconds, time well spent IMO.

I open the hood and stuff a microfiber In the underside of each vent. Hose away all you want no water gets in. After washing open hood and remove said microfibers.

I just use shitty ones from the kitchen for this purpose.

I don't want water dripping on my airbox lid or being power washed in there.

These cars can operate in the rain. You're not going to get water anywhere when washing it with the hood closed that it won't get driving it in the rain. All the former GT500's, Mitsubishi Evo's, Camarao ZL1's, and many other cars have survived with vented hoods for years. You're overthinking all of this.
