I notice when I rev the car in neutral it moves the car forward a bit on every rev, is that normal or do I have some type of issue?

Mine does it too. It also will make a "bang" sometimes when started and toss the car forward against the parking pawl.

I have noticed that bang too, usually when the car is started when warm. I always have my parking brake on so I thought it was something to do with the exhaust. Good to know. Thanks

I can't imagine how or why that would be normal. Mine certainly never does that.

How about when you rev the car in neutral with no brakes on, does it move forward slightly?

I haven't tried revving in neutral. I will do it and see what happens. It was lo pony's post about the bang and tossing against the park pawl that I would consider unusual and abnormal.

Crazy thought but is it possible that the force of the exhaust coming out could push the car forward slightly.....like a jet aircraft only on a much smaller scale?

Mine does this too. I don't believe a small amount of exhaust gas is going to move a 4000+ lb car lol

I am not an expert on automatic transmissions. I don't understand how or why a car would move forward in neutral when the engine is revved or why starting it in park would make it bang against the park pawl.

These A 10 transmission have some weird quirks.. approximately 5x now.. Iā€™ll be driving and all of the sudden the car feels like itā€™s in neutral? For approx 3-4 seconds. Not sure whatā€™s the deal. Mine doesnā€™t lurch though.

Iā€™m wondering if there is a PCM flash that will take care of that.

It isnā€™t normal behavior if we are talking about other automatics, thatā€™s for sure. Mine will sometimes hang in between low gears if Iā€™m moving at low speed and give it gas when itā€™s thinking about shifting. Not often, but it has happened.

Mine has done this a few times. Usually when the trans is not warmed up yet and I have it in sport mode, the 3-4 will feel like it went neutral for a few sec. If I leave it in drive until its warmed up I think it doesnt do this after its warmer.

I rebuilt a Honda 400EX from the frame up over the winter. After I got the rear axle rebuilt and put back together I fired it up for the first time to make sure everything looked good and to lube the chain as I still had the rear in the air. In neutral, the rear axle was slowly turning. Once I installed tires and got it on the ground it sat still in neutral.

Same exact thing happened with my son's Honda Civic when I had it in the air to install some coil-overs on it, slowly spinning in neutral, no issues when back on the ground.

Apparently there is some small amount of torque being applied to the driveline even when in neutral.
