Exciting news from Whipple Superchargers & Lethal Performance!

This is it, folks: the moment you've all been waiting for...

We hope you enjoyed that wonderful, happy video. Did you watch to the end? We hope you did. Did you check out Jared's awesome painting, though??

That's RIGHT! Whipple has given us the green light on the Gen 5 3.0L Supercharger Kits for the 2011-2014 and 2015-2017 Mustang GT and the 2015-2019 Shelby GT350!

So let's get into what makes this such an awesome announcement...

Gen 5?!
Whipple continues to stay at the forefront of not only supercharger technology but also automotive technology. When the 2018 Mustang GT specs came out, it flipped their world upside down, quite literally. They created an entirely new supercharger that was upside down. Sort of. We mean upside down in that, opposite of the previous 2017-older Mustang 2.9L superchargers, the intercooler now sits ON TOP of the rotors. This new 3.0L supercharger was dubbed the Gen 5. Why not Gen 1 since it’s an all new design, you ask??

gen5casings.jpg

Nothing to see here... except a bunch of Gen 5 rotor housings! Notice the placement on the bottom, beneath where the intercooler/lid will attach.

When the Gen 5 3.0L was released, the 2.9L for the 2011-2017 Mustangs was on Gen 3, which was already proving to be a worthy upgrade from the Gen 1 and Gen 2 setups. On top of that, Whipple already had the Gen 4 rotors in the works but they knew that they would be retro-fitting the new 3.0L for the 2018 onto the older cars since it was proving to be incredibly efficient and make some insane horsepower… hence the Gen 5 name.

What’s new about the Gen 5 besides the intercooler and rotors switching locations?
It has all new bearings, gears, rotors and housing that allow the new supercharger to spin faster, longer and safer while producing more power than any other positive displacement supercharger ever built.

The Gen 5 3.0L also features an even larger intercooler than the already massive Whipple Cooler that cooled the older Ford Cobra Jets and all the record setting S550 Mustangs. Couple this with the industry's leading heat exchanger, water reservoir and intercooler pump, you get more power with lower boost levels and quicker recovery times after aggressive operation.

How has the Gen 5 3.0L been performing on the 2018s so far?
There are a TON of wicked awesome, wicked fast 2018+ S550s running the Gen 5 3.0L supercharger kit and we are beyond impressed with some of the results.

It's not news that we've been running a [pre-production] Gen 5 3.0L supercharger on our own 2018 Mustang GT aka Project Goldmember. With the stock motor (minus the Boundary oil pump gears and crank sprocket), Jared has driven the car to a 9.04 @152 in sweltering temps (8s soon!!).

For more info on our car, click here.

joanna.jpg

Then there's #teamlethal team member Joanna, aka @that1320chick, who not only put down over 880rwhp but the car has also been 9.60s at the track! She's only going to get faster from here on out.

Want to learn more about the car (and her)? Go check out & subscribe to her YouTube channel.

But we're not here to brag about the 2018+ cars...

Not just for the 2018+ anymore!
Whipple Superchargers brings you the Gen 5 3.0L supercharger for your 2011-2014 Mustang GT/Boss 302 and the 2015-2017 Mustang GT and GT350! Featuring the same technology as used in the kits for the 2018+ Mustang, this kit will be sure to make some amazing power and as available in different stages to suit your needs. And don’t worry, you guys with the 2003-04 Cobras and 2007-2014 Shelby GT500s… you’re next to get this badass blower!

The kits for the 2011-2017 Mustang Gen 5 kits will use the same supercharger as the 2018+ Mustang kits, including the coolant lines, plumbing and belt system. The fuel injectors, fuel pump, heat exchanger & other components will remain the same as the Gen 3 and 4 2.9L setups.

What about real world testing?
Since this kit is so new, the testing has been limited but there are a few badass cars running this new Gen 5 3.0L Setup on an older platform.

willrollins.jpg

Whipple’s own team member Will Rollins is rocking a bright green Gen 5 3.0L in his 2011 Mustang GT and has gone 8.40s!

robhenson.jpg

Then there is #teamlethal friend & customer Robert Henson (aka @whipple.rob on Instagram, go check him out!). He is no stranger to Whipples, but we can tell this new Gen 5 setup on his 2013 Mustang GT is probably his favorite. He has a built motor with ported heads & cams but still runs the factory 6r80 transmission and this 3.0L powerhouse supercharger has taken him well into the 8-second territory. This car is built by Paramount Speed & tuned by Palm Beach Dyno. (We’ll be going LIVE with Rob and we’ll be sure to update this page with any more info we have on his setup!)

terryeshman.jpg

Another prominent Gen 5 retro-fitted Mustang is that of Terry Eshman, built by the guys over at BA Motorsports. This car makes 1200rwhp through a Gen 5 and in a video posted by Brandon, owner of BA Motorsports, he notes some awesome horsepower comparisons between the Gen 3 they previous had on the car and the new Gen 5 setup.

Click here to check out the video!

With a 3.50” pulley, the Gen 3 2.9L on the car made 821rwhp at 18.6psi, tuned by Rob “The Tunemaker” Shoemaker at Palm Beach Dyno. With the same size pulley on the Gen 5 3.0L, the car made 1074rwhp at 19.8psi. That’s a gain of over 200rwhp!

With a 3.00” pulley, the Gen 5 3.0L put down 1207rwhp at 24.7psi. It took a small 2.75” pulley to get the Gen 3 2.9L up to 24.14psi and the car made 1035rwhp.

While Terry’s S550 may be a much bigger build than most of you are gunning for, it still shows the awesome potential for power increase over the 2.9L Gen 3 setup. It is important to note that Terry is running the Cobra Jet lid on the supercharger, which has a 1” larger intercooler core and uses -16an lines for the cooling system.

Still with us?? Here’s a quick wrap-up:
  • Gen 5 3.0L used on the 2018s now available for 2011-2017 Mustangs
  • Larger, top-mounted intercooler
  • More efficient rotor profile
  • Horsepower & boost gains at same pulley size (as previous 2.9L)
  • Fits under the stock hood

Will there be a kit for the guys currently running the Gen 3 on the 15-17 to switch to the Gen 5?

This would be an entirely different kit, your best best would be reselling the gen3 and going with a new gen5.

The question plenty will be asking is this:
Gen 4 vs Gen 5 on the 15-17

Nice, Grabber Blue Gen5.

I don't know how people who buy a Whipple keep up with the new ones because it feels like they keep releasing a new one every year.

This gen5 setup has been out for awhile (our 18 has had it a year now.. crazy how time flies!)...but it was retrofitted to the 15-17's now and as their most efficient setup, carries some benefits over the gen4's.

With this being said, even the gen3 can put out enough power to blow your motor. We're here to help build people's dream setup and I'll be realistic when doing so. Feel free to message me with any questions.

If choosing the 150mm throttle body will it affect driving in anyway?
Does it come with a whipple tune?

Do you guys have a pic of a 2015-2017 engine bay with the supercharger installed?

In the thread above, the orange car has a nice picture!
Whipple does not tune the 150mm setups - I would only go 150mm if you're going for full effort builds.
