I'm looking into some Apex EC-7 wheels in the near future and I'm torn between 18" or 19" inch. The two setups I have in mind would be 18x9.5 square with 275/40/18 OR 19x10 square with 285/35/19. I know the 18" setup would be faster accelerating/braking (I'm well aware of the physics behind this) and tires would be cheaper but I'm afraid the car would be too low combined with lowering springs. I find jacking up a super low car obnoxious. My last car was slammed because younger me thought it was "cool" and I ended up hating it.
Does anyone have first-hand experience with either of these setups or switching to 18s from 19s in general? Was there a noticeable performance improvement going 18 inch? Any pictures of ride height with 18s and suspension upgrades?

Thanks in advance.

As long as you get the same tire height for both the 18 or 19 wheels, the the car won't be sitting any lower or higher with either choice.

You'll just have more tire wall with the 18s vs the 19s, but overall the tire size should be the same thus the same ride height and the same fender gap between it and the top of the tire.

Look at the comparison between a 285/40/18 and a 285/35/19. They are basically the same exact size overall, but 18s have more tirewall that makeup the 1" less wheel diameter.

OP mentioned 275/40/18 which is a far more common tire size than 285/40/18.
Right, and vs. the common 275/35 or 285/35 19 inch tires, the difference is once again minimal in overall height.

Both of those are 26.6 or 26.9 vs the 26.7 of the 275/40/18 mentioned.

Buy 18x10 and then you can run ~stock diameter 295/40R18 tires (275 are also fine on a 10" wheel). Very likely will require a spacer up front.

There is nothing a 9.5 will do that a 10" won't do better. But 11" wheels introduce new complications.

True but EC7 18x9.5 has a better offset than their 18x10. I'm also trying to fit brake ducts in the same space so I could use all the extra room I can get.

If I'm honest with myself, I already have all the info I need; I just can't make a decision. I guess I was hoping someone would say "Stop thinking and buy (blank)!!" haha

There is a lot, lot better selection of wide 19" track or track-oriented tires in the 26-27" diameter range than 18". That alone would push me to 19" these days.

18x10" 275/40/18 all around

18x11" 305/35/18 rear

I also run 18x10s all around but more so for daily driving and swap the rears with 18x11 with Toyo R888R when I need to use them. I think you would have a bigger selection of tires going 19x10. I wish they made 275/40/18 R888R but they do make the R888 in that size.

If this is a daily driver then 19 x 10 makes sense. If this is a track day set of wheels, then 19 x 11 would be a good choice. 18 x 11 is standard race size, but not sure if all 18’s fit over brakes.

I know they aren’t EC7’s but I’m running 19x11 SM10’s for track use and really like them. The tire is a bit shorter than I’d like but I got a deal on them. I’ll run a little taller next time around.

Yeah, I like the newer Apex SM-10 more than the EC7. Plenty of tire selection in 19” sizes to work with.
